Billy "Bill" Baker Obituary

Billy “Bill” John Baker of Davisville, Missouri passed away Monday, February 4, 2019 at his home at the age of 81 years and 6 months. Bill was born August 4, 1937 in Davisville to parents Raymond and Dora Martin Baker. He was united in marriage to Carol Daugherty and to his union two children were born.

Bill served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1963.  He was a long time member of the Davisville Community Church, previously Davisville Assembly of God Church. Bill owned and operated with Joe and Wilma Baker, his brother and sister-in-law, the Baker’s Feed and Grocery in Davisville for a number of years and in a few years bought them out.  He was a farmer and loved every minute of it. Bill enjoyed raising cattle and enjoyed his life on the farm more than a vacation. He also enjoyed deer hunting and fishing in his spare time. Bill drove a school bus for twenty-five years and enjoyed all of the children that passed through his bus doors along with many who looked forward to seeing Bill each school morning. For approximately twelve years, he volunteered delivering meals for Golden Echoes. Bill loved his family and life and will be missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two step-sons, Mitchell and Curtis Brand; one brother, Joe and Wilma Baker; and sisters, Virginia Wilson and husband, Elba, Naomi Halbert and husband Welbon and Nadine Watson and husband Ray.

He is survived by his son, Bill “Little Bill” Baker and wife Denna of Fair Grove, MO; one daughter, Lisa Black and husband Alan of Republic, MO; one brother, Jim Baker and wife Kathy of Cuba, MO; sister, Betty Sue Gremaud and husband Pete of Pacific, MO; loving friend, Doris Wigger of Steelville, MO; twelve grandchildren, Kameron Griffin, Alison Black, Brandon Black, Alisha Pearson, Brandi Huff, Casey Baker, Dory Baker, Sonja Cox, Brad Brand, Eric Brand, Josh Brand and Mykala Brown; five great-grandchildren, Sarah Pearson, Ainsley Griffin, Hailey Parsons, Ryan Parsons and Annabelle Cox; nieces, nephews; other relatives; and many friends.

The Family received friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 7, 2019 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 8, 2019 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home with Evangelist Ronnie Dean Raven, Rev. John Slade and Rev. Bob Coleman officiating. Memories were shared by granddaughter, Alisha Pearson. Special music of "How Great Thou Art", "I've Got More to go to Heaven for", "I've Never Been this Homesick Before" and "I'll Fly Away" was sung by the Ivie sisters, Rosemary, Joan and Glenda.

Committal prayer and interment with Full Military Honors by the U.S. Army and VFW Post 5608 St. James were in the Davisville Cemetery, Davisville, MO. Music of "What a Day that will Be" and "Amazing Grace" was played and sung by Mitch Davis.

Honored to be casket bearers were Dennis Baker, Randy Tinker, Danny Tinker, Gary Halbert, Roger Baker and Rodney Baker.
