Clarid George Gibbs, age 77, of Dillard, Missouri passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born October 22, 1942 in Davisville, Missouri to George and Irene Key Gibbs. On November 14, 1964 at the Cherryville Baptist Church, he was united in marriage to Joyce Edgar and to this union two sons and two daughters were born.
He was a member of the Cherryville Baptist Church for many years. Clarid was a member of the United Steel Workers Union, Local #6242. He was employed several years for St. Joe/Doe Run Company and retired in 2002. He had a passion for raising hogs and did so with the influence from his father who did the same. He later in life starting raising cattle as a hobby. As a young man, he enjoyed playing baseball and eventually coached little league. In his spare time, he also enjoyed fishing, playing checkers and spending as much time as possible with his grandchildren whether it was sports or playing games.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Irene Gibbs; son-in-law, Greg Pipkin; parents-in-law, Reuben and Opal Edgar; five brothers, Kenny (Barb) Gibbs, Dale (Verla) Gibbs, Rennick Gibbs, Ray Halbert and Don Halbert; five sisters, Shirley Hedrick, Clio Ware, Argie (Warren) Parrett, Jo (Johnny) Strange and Margaret Hampton; and brother-in-law, Loren Willhite.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of fifty-five years, Joyce Gibbs of Dillard, MO; two sons, Chris (Beverly) Gibbs and Deron (Angela) Gibbs all of Dillard, MO; two daughters, Kelly (Lyle) Evans of Danville, KY and Beth Pipkin of Fredericktown, MO; nine grandchildren, Kaylyn (Ethan) Johnson, Eric (Liz) Evans, Conrad (Janeen) Gibbs, Avery (Cody) Lough, Leah (Jordan) Conaway, Anna Gibbs, Clara Gibbs, Shelby Pipkin and Olivia Pipkin; one brother, Tom (Phyllis) Gibbs of Viburnum, MO; two sisters, Nellie Willhite of Davisville, MO and Loretta (Skeets) Howdeshell of Mehlville, MO; sisters-in-law, Ileen Halbert of Steelville, MO, Alice Halbert of Marion, IL, JoAnn Becker of Steelville, MO and Mary (Mike) McConnell of St. Charles, MO; five brothers-in-law, Delbert Hedrick of Viburnum, MO, Jim (Brenda) Edgar of Irondale, MO, Jerry Edgar of Cuba, MO, Bill Edgar and Jack (Jane) Edgar all of Steelville, MO; other relatives; and many friends.
The Family received friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 1, 2019 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 2, 2019 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO with Rev. Jim Chilton officiating with great-nephew, Nolan Kirkwood reading the obituary. Special music of "Jesus have mercy on me" was sung by Larry Sherrill with Geraldine Sherrill on piano. Other music of "Amazing Grace" was sung by son, Deron Gibbs and grandchildren, Leah, Anna and Clara Gibbs. Memories were shared by sons, Chris and Deron Gibbs and other family members.
Committal prayer and interment were in the Old Dillard Cemetery, Dillard, MO.
Honored to be casket bearers were Nolan Kirkwood, Ethan Johnson, Jordan Conaway, Jeff Becker, Conrad Gibbs, Eric Evans, Buddy Adams, Cody Lough and honorary Jesse (Skeets) Howdeshell.
The Family was served by the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of Steelville, MO.
