Edwin William Howald

Edwin William Howald of St. Louis, Missouri passed away Sunday, April 9, 2017 at the Missouri Veterans Home, St. James, MO at the age of 89 years, 2 months and 19 days. He was born in Steelville, Missouri on January 21, 1928 to Frank Howald and Jane A. Cain Howald. On January 3, 1971, he was united in marriage to Miriam Gose who preceded him in death in 1987.

Edwin served his country in the U.S. Army. He earned his Bachelor's degree in education from Southwest Missouri State University (MSU) and a Master's degree in Education from Missouri University in Columbia. He was a member of the Zion United Methodist Church in St. Louis where he worked with the prison ministry. He taught school for a few years in the Elementary and Junior High level in St. Louis.  Edwin retired from the St. Louis Division of Employment Security.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Miriam; his brother, Arthur Howald and wife Susie; and niece, Katherine Kenagy.

He is survived by his nephew, Kent Howald and wife Betty Ann of Steelville, MO; great nieces and nephews, David and Liz Howald, Jonathan and Cassie Howald, Sean and Jordan Kenagy, Allison Kenagy and Trenton Kenagy.

The Family received friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO.

Graveside services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at the Lakewood Park Cemetery in Afton, MO with Rev. Kevin Farr officiating.
