Frances L. Thomas, nee Gibbs, of Springfield, Missouri, formerly of Viburnum, Missouri passed away Sunday, November 10, 2019 in Springfield at the age of 83 years, 7 months and 13 days. She was born March 28, 1936 in Davisville, Missouri to Ray and Hazel Davis Gibbs. Frances was united in marriage to William Harry Thomas on June 22, 1957 in Davisville, Missouri and to this union two sons and one daughter were born.
Frances was employed at Ralston Purina for a few years and later Zenith, Doe Run, Viburnum schools and the state of MO. She also served as an Ombudsman for Gibbs Care Center in Steelville and Stone Crest at Viburnum for over twenty years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Viburnum for many years. Frances also was instrumental in helping start the Senior Center at Viburnum along with volunteering to serve meals. She enjoyed crocheting, learning about her family history by traveling with her husband to Tennessee and overseas and was an avid Cardinal Baseball fan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Hazel Gibbs; her husband, Harry Thomas; two brothers, Ken Gibbs and Jim (Judy) Gibbs; infant sister, Mary Ruth; brothers-in-law, Carl Price, Paul Thomas, Rennic Thomas, Frank Thomas and Lowell (Sylvia) Thomas; and sister-in-law, Leah Land.
She will be sadly missed by her two sons, William “Anthony” (Colleen) Thomas of Springfield, MO and Benjamin “Ben” (Katrina) Thomas of Florida; one daughter, Sharon (Scott) Hilton of Nixa, MO; one brother, Paul (Yvonne) Gibbs of St. Charles, MO, two sisters, Gayle (Caroll) Deal of Springfield, MO and Vera Price of Sparta, MO; sisters-in-law, Jolene Gibbs of Steelville, MO, Barbara Thomas of CA and Carol Thomas of Viburnum, MO; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; other relatives; and many friends.
The Family received friends from 12:00 noon until time of service on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO with Rev. Bob Coleman officiating. Special music of "How Great Thou Art" and "Amazing Grace" was played. Memories were shared by her son, Ben.
Committal prayer and interment were in the Czar Cemetery, Viburnum, MO.
Honored to be casket bearers were Joshua Thomas, Jeff Gibbs, Jason Gibbs, Blake Gibbs, Scott Hilton and Kevin Gibbs.
