Gilbert "Gib" Turnbough, age 92 years, 11 months and 21 days, passed peacefully from this life into eternal life with his Savior and Lord Jesus Christ on July 2, 2017 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan, Missouri.

Gilbert was born on July 11, 1924 to Wayne and Luettie, nee Scott, Turnbough in Crawford County, Missouri. In July of 1950, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Louise Midyett and from this union one daughter was born, Janet Sue.

He made his profession of faith in 1955 at the age of 30 and served the Lord faithfully all of his days, most recently at First Baptist Church, Cuba, MO. Gilbert served his country in the U.S. Navy on the USS Hopewell Destroyer in the Pacific during WWII. He was proud to have celebrated his 19th, 20th and 21st birthdays at sea. He retired from Brown Shoe Company in 1986 after nearly thirty-five years of service.

Gilbert is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Louise Turnbough; daughter, Janet Bradley and husband Vernon of Eureka, MO; one granddaughter, Laura Whisler and husband Mark of Springfield, MO; three great-grandchildren, Carson, Jaylee and Sydney; one brother-in-law, Bob Midyett of St. Louis, MO; two sister-in-laws, Rosalie Midyett and Ella Mary Midyett both of Steelville, MO; and countless nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Luettie Turnbough; two brothers, Clarence Turnbough and wife Opal and Glen Turnbough and wife Juanita; three sisters, Verniece Lea and husband Hack, Fran Guess and husband Frank and Polly Walden and husband Walt; three brothers-in-law, Earl Midyett, Bill Midyett and Harry Midyett; and two sisters-in-law, Lorraine Street and Kathryn Midyett.

The Family received friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 5th and from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 6th at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO with Rev. Jim Moore officiating. Special music of "Till the Storm Passes By" and "Even in the Valley" was sung by Vernon Bradley and Laura Whisler.

Committal prayer, interment and full military honors by the U.S. Navy and St. James VFW Post 5608 were in the Steelville Cemetery.

Honored to be casket bearers were Bob J. Midyett, Joe Midyett, Treff Earney, Mike Turnbough, Roger Turnbough and Harry Benson.

The Family was served by the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of Steelville, MO.
