James "Radis" Skaggs of Viburnum, MO passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at the age of 84. He was born at Shoal Creek, Missouri on November 22, 1926 to William Otis Skaggs and Eva Chandler Skaggs. On August 1, 1952 in Pocahantas, AR, he was united in marriage to Norma Jean Abney who preceded him in death on March 10, 2003.

He served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1952-1954.

Radis was a member of the Look Out Assembly of God Church and a member of the American Legion at Davisville.

In his past time, he enjoyed watching Cardinal baseball.

He will be sadly missed by his two sons, Wayne Skaggs and wife Mary of Bunker, MO and Ronnie Skaggs and wife Stephanie of Blackwell, OK; five daughters, Sharon Clark and husband Gary of Carthage, MO, Linda Skaggs of Viburnum, MO, Debra Minor and husband Harry of Moro, IL, Carol Barton and husband Mark of Black, MO, and Beverly Combs and husband Larry of Cuba, MO; two sisters, Lorene Riggs of Crystal City, MO and Gerene Coleman of Pevely, MO; sisters-in-law, Nina Skaggs of High Ridge, MO, Shirley Abney of St. Louis, MO and Vernice Engelhardt of Steelville, MO; brother-in-law, Arnold Abney and wife Betty of Steelville, MO; seventeen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; special grand-daughter, Jessica Skaggs Quinn and husband Jay of Warrensburg, MO who was raised by her grandparents; and special friend, James McCurry of Blackwell, OK who for twelve years helped take care of the farm; many special nieces, nephews, and cousins; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Norma Jean; one daughter, Donna Sue Britton; two brothers, Rev. Herman Skaggs and wife Hildred and Frank Evans and wife Eula; two sisters, Irene Skaggs and a infant sister; brothers-in-law, Claude Riggs, Arthur Abney, Junies Engelhardt and Herman Abney and wife Hilda.

The Family received friends from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 28, 2011 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO with the American Legion Riders standing guard.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at Look Out Assembly of God Church in Viburnum, MO with Pastor Sharon Hedrick officiating.

Committal prayer and burial were in the  Czar Cemetery at Viburnum, MO with full Military Honors by US Army and American Legion of Salem, followed by a closing song "Sheltered in the Arms of God", by Tom Stock.

Honored to be casket bearers were Travis Smith, Donnie Barton, Aaron Skaggs, David Skaggs, Joe Britton and Jim Stock. Honorary casketbearers were James McCurry and Christopher Skaggs.

The Family was served by the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of Steelville, MO.
