Lindell Glenwood Wallen of Steelville, Missouri passed away at his home on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at the age of 83 years, 10 months and 10 days. He was born April 25, 1929 in Ishmael, MO to Floyd Amos Wallen and Mary Brakefield Wallen. On October 27, 1951 in Potosi, MO, he was united in marriage to Vivian Taylor and to this union six children were born.
Lindell served his country honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1953. He worked for over nineteen years in St. Louis at the Chevrolet Plant and later retired in July of 1986 from the St. Joe Lead Company. He was a 50 year member of the American Legion in Davisville. Lindell always enjoyed the outdoors where he could fish, hunt, golf or play baseball during his younger days. He also was a bowler and won many trophies for bowling, golfing, playing horseshoes and baseball.
Recently he became a Christian and was quoted as saying, "I'm ready to leave this world and say Amen."
He was preceded in death by his parents; Floyd and Mary Wallen; and two brother-in-laws, Frank Franklin and Roy Lynn Young.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of sixty-one years, Vivian Wallen of Steelville, MO; five sons, James Floyd Wallen and wife Mary Jane of Viburnum, MO, Gregory Leon Wallen and wife Kelly of St. Charles, MO, Stanley Dwayne Wallen and wife Stacy of Steelville, MO, Roger Dean Wallen of Hillsboro, MO and Steven Glenwood Wallen and wife Mary Jean of Bloomsdale, MO; one daughter, Linda Diane West and husband Jim of AR; two brothers, George Wallen and wife Roberta of Hillsboro, MO and Alvis Wallen and wife Connie of Meta, MO; two sisters, Bonnie Franklin of IL and Bea Young of Farmington, MO; nine grandchildren, Betty Vi Wyatt, Amanda Caldron, Stephaine Caldron, Jamie Wallen, Stanette Wallen, Kyle Wallen, Cody Wallen, Jame Floyd Jr. and Stanton Wallen; six step-grandchildren, Autume, Wendy, Jeanie, Jasmine, Tyler and Rose; eight great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
The Family received friends from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 8, 2013 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO with Rev Perry Lewis officiating. Special music of "I Will Rise" was sung by Cindy Kampeter and other music of "What A Day" and "Old Rugged Cross" was played. Memories were shared by a brother, George Wallen.
Committal prayer and interment were in the Shoal Creek Cemetery with full military honors given by the U.S. Army.
Honored to be casket bearers were Ray Matheny, Bob Brown, Kyle Wallen, Junior Wallen, Cody Wallen, Henry Martin and Terry Martin.
The Family was served by the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of Steelville, MO.
