Margaret Hampton Obituary

Margaret Emaline Hampton, nee Halbert, of Boss, Missouri passed away Thursday, September 26, 2019 at the Veterans Home in St. James at the age of 89 years, 2 months and 5 days. She was born July 21, 1930 in Salem, Nebraska to Ralph and Irene Gibbs Halbert.

Margaret served our country honorably in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1953. She attended Freewill Baptist Church at Viburnum. Margaret enjoyed baking and sewing and made several dresses for Easter and prom. She enjoyed doing yardwork, reading, taking drives and visiting with family and friends along the way. Margaret collected glassware and rocks, which she was known as the “Rock Lady.”

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Cindy Keltner; two grandchildren, Tiffany and Jessica; four brothers, Ray Halbert, Don Halbert, Kenny Wayne (Barb) Gibbs, Dale (Verla) Gibbs; four sisters, Shirley Hedrick, Clio Ware, Argie (Warren) Parrett and Jo (Johnny) Strange; and brother-in-law, Loren Willhite.

She will be sadly missed by her two sons, David (Debbie) Kirkwood and Ricky Kirkwood all of Boss, MO; four daughters, Lisa Kirkwood Komindo of Hawk Point, MO, Tammie (Matt) Threlkeld of St. Peter’s, MO, Karen Cason of Bland, MO and Cindy Kay (Larry) Carpenter of St. Louis, MO; son-in-law, Antoine Keltner of Louisville, KY; eleven grandchildren, Ashley and Nolan (Samantha), Dustin (Kylee), Fallen (Brady), Rachelle, April (Aaron), Amber, Andrew, Kaleb, Eli and Caitlyn; five great-grandchildren, Ryder, Marcail, Cheslee, Raelynn and Brelynn; two brothers, Tom (Phyllis) Gibbs of Viburnum, MO and Clarid (Joyce) Gibbs of Dillard, MO; two sisters, Nellie Willhite of Davisville, MO and Loretta (Skeets) Howdeshell of St. Louis, MO; sister-in-law, Ilene Halbert of Steelville, MO; and brother-in-law, Delbert Hedrick of Viburnum, MO; other relatives; and many friends.

The Family received friends from 10:00 a.m. until time of service on Sunday, September 29, 2019 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 29, 2019 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home with Rev. Evan Bell officiating. Special music of "Amazing Grace" and "Look for Me" was sung by Phyllis Gibbs with Dan Halbert accompanying on piano. Memories were shared by Debbie Kirkwood, April Mullen, Steve Willhite and Noland Kirkwood with a song he also sang and wrote, "I'll See you There."

Full military honors by the U.S. Army, St. James VFW Post #5608  and the Patriot Guard were held after the services at the funeral home.

Honored to be casket bearers were Nolan Kirkwood, Caitlyn Keltner, Eli Cason, Andrew Cason, Kaleb Cason, Dustin Kirkwood, April Mullen and Fallon Loker.

Inurnment will be at a later date in the Freeman Cemetery.

The Family was served by the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO.
