Thomas Spurgeon LaPlant

Thomas Spurgeon LaPlant of Steelville, Missouri passed away Saturday, August 03, 2019 at Silverstone Place in Rolla, Missouri at the age of 87 years. Tom was born July 10, 1932 in Steelville to Albert LaPlant and Effie Lee Halbert LaPlant. In 1950, he was united in marriage to Mary Lou Bobbitt in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas and to this union three children were born.

Tom had been a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in St. Louis. Many years ago he worked for Tommy Halbert as an ambulance driver. Tom was employed at General Motors in St. Louis retiring after thirty-two years. He enjoyed attending the steam engine and thresher association events.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Lou; and one son, Thomas Spurgeon LaPlant, Jr.

He is survived by two daughters, Lisa Seep of Robertsville, MO and Melinda Holohan of High Ridge, MO; six grandchildren, Brian Weddington, Thomas Holohan, Jr., Malisa Thomas, Ronald McKnight, Sarah Spaeth and Hillary Bourner; eight great-grandchildren, Davian Weddington, J.P. Bourner, Ava Spaeth, Cal Thomas, Masin Thomas, Jack Thomas, Kayleigh McKnight and Brooke Spaeth; one brother, William LaPlant and wife Geneva of Alton, IL; other relatives and friends.

Private graveside services were held on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 with Bill Bennett officiating.

Committal prayer and interment were in the Steelville Cemetery.

Honored to be casket bearers were Eric Spaeth, Thomas Bourner, Brian Weddington, J.T. Ransom, Blaine Parrett and Terry Beckham.
