Perle (Talbert)
Rogers
Jun 5, 1923 — Oct 1, 2012
Dorothy Perle Rogers, daughter of the late Arthur & Ruth (Vaughn) Talbert was born June 5, 1923 on Lucky Street in St. Louis, MO. She departed this life Monday, October 1, 2012 at the age of 89 years, 3 months and 26 days. On June 13, 1942, she was united in marriage to Duell Rogers and to this union two daughters were born. Perle was preceded in death by her husband, Duell; her parents, Ruth and Arthur Talbert; sister, Lucille Beryl Talbert; brother, Arthur Joseph Talbert; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Omer and Lois Rogers; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jack and Virginia Rogers; and two sisters-in-law, Pat Talbert and Mary Anne Talbert. She is survived by her two daughters, Sherry Ruth Pitts and husband Monroe of Cook Station, MO and Lois Kay Housewright and husband Robert of Ozark, MO; two grandchildren, Sara Kay Brownsworth and husband Christopher of Columbia, MO and Amy Marie Tolleson and husband Brandon of Benton, AR; two great-grandchildren, Brooke Kaylia Brownsworth and Owen Robert Brownsworth of Columbia, MO; five brothers, Robert Talbert and wife Laverne of Rushville, IL, Frank Talbert of De Soto, MO, Bill Talbert and wife Jean of Cook Station, MO, Alvin Talbert of Minier, IL and John Talbert and wife Virginia of Browning, IL; two sisters, Phyllis Eck and husband John of Overland, MO and Sheila Kramer and husband Jim of Chesterfield, MO; special nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
The Talberts lived in St. Louis County where Perle attended three years of grade school until the depression of 1932 when they moved to Cook Station to live with Perle's grandfather, Henry Talbert. She concluded her grade school years at Benton Creek and attended Cherryville High School where she graduated as valedictorian of her class of 1940. She attended one year at Missouri Business School and then worked as a bookkeeper and secretary in St. Louis for several years. In December of 1942, Duell was called into the armed services where he served for three years and was discharged in November of 1945. During the war, while Duell was gone, Perle worked as one of the first butcherettes in St. Louis and belonged to the AMCU. Perle was staying with her parents at Cook Station, so when Duell was discharged from the army they moved to the country with her parents. They bought a farm on Benton Creek where Perle lived until her death. The Lord was good to Perle. Sherry was born in January of 1947 and Kay was born in September of 1950, gifts from God. The Rogers lived a simple life with no car, not much furniture or house. Family helped them get started and the Lord was always with them. Perle loved the farm and her garden, picking apples and berries, attending family get-togethers and most of all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She and her mom pieced quilts and helped each other with the canning and the children or whatever was needed. Duell worked off the farm as the manager of Fordell Development Charcoal Company and Perle worked there, also, as secretary and bookkeeper. They were part owners of the Manor Inn in Rolla, MO for a few years where Duell worked. Perle owned and operated Rogers Fashion Shop in Steelville from 1965 to 1979 and also Rogers Fashion Shop in Salem, MO. Duell began Rogers Post & Lumber Company outside of Steelville in 1973 which he owned and operated until his death in November of 1985. Perle did the bookwork for this business. Later, she sold the fashion shop and worked for her daughter, Sherry, at Sherry's Floral & Gift Shoppe in Steelville from 1979 to 1995 when she retired. Perle made many new friends in Steelville. Twins were born to Kay and Robert in 1978 who were blessings from our Lord. They were the joy of Perle's life. The Lord blessed Perle with two great-grandchildren, Brooke in 2010 and Owen in 2012.
Perle professed faith in Christ and was baptized in the Meramec River. She was baptized again along with her family at the First Baptist Church in Steelville and became a member of Wesco Baptist Church in 1964. Perle had a card ministry in her later years, comforting, encouraging and brightening the lives of others. Even though she lived alone, she was never bored, lonely or depressed. Perle's life was full and the Lord was always by her side. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and a caring friend.
We celebrate her life and will always cherish the memories. She is now with her Savior, Jesus Christ and her Heavenly Father and we look forward to spending eternity with her in Heaven.
