Alan James Black

Alan James Black, of Pittsburg, Missouri, passed away Friday, July 3, 2026 in his home at the age of 66 years, 2 months and 25 days. He was born Friday, April 8, 1960 in Decatur, IL to Earney James Black and Wanda Lucille Bolyard Black.

In August of 1987, Alan married Sandy Benham and two children were born, Brandon and Alison.

He later was united in marriage to Lisa Baker on March 16, 1998 in Eureka Springs, AR and together they helped raise his two children along with Lisa’s son, Kameron.

Alan was employed in rental equipment sales in the Springfield, MO area for many years and retired in 2022. He taught many classes of OSHA safety training during his working years.

He was a member of the Christian Church in Forsyth, MO and a member of the Springfield Masonic Lodge.

Alan was an avid crappie fisherman, enjoyed mushroom hunting and a musician who loved playing his guitar and singing.  At the age of 12, he learned to play a guitar and in his 30’s he and some friends had a Southern Rock band, called Potters Ford.  

He is preceded in death by his parents, Earney and Wanda Black; brothers, Michael, Kevin and Roger Black; his parents-in-law, Bill Baker and Carol Daughtery Plank; and granddaughter, Clara Black.

He will be sadly missed by his wife of 28 years, Lisa Black, of the home; his children, Alison Black and Brandon Black of Fair Grove, MO and Kameron Griffin of Richmond, KY; grandchildren, Jeriod and Devin Black and Ainsley Griffin; sister, Angela (Robert) Daugherty, Decatur, IL; brother-in-law, Bill (Denna) Baker of Fair Grove, MO; other relatives; and friends.

The Family received friends from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 10, 2026 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 10, 2026 with Rev. Robert Daugherty officiating. Special music of “Angel Band”, “Amazing Grace” and “Go Rest High” was sung by Bob and Carol Coleman.

Committal prayer and interment were in the Davisville Cemetery, Davisville, MO.

Honored to be casket bearers were Brad Daugherty, Ryan Cox, Michael Cox, Brody Huff, Chase Davis and David Fox with honorary bearer, Billy Baker.

The Black Family was served by the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of Steelville, MO.
