Alfred “Al” Monroe Hewkin of Eureka, Missouri and Davisville, Missouri, passed away Friday, May 31, 2024 at his home in Davisville at the age of 85 years and 2 months. He was born March 31, 1939 in St. Louis, Missouri to Fred Monroe Hewkin and Ida Emmaline Ledbetter Hewkin. Al was united in marriage to Judy Collier and to this union two children were born.
Al graduated from the Cherryville High School in 1957. He had attended Allenton Heights Baptist Church and was baptized in that church many years ago. In 1971, Al started his own company, Valley Park Welding, and the business continues after fifty-three years.
He had been a member of over 50 years in the Steelville Masonic Lebanon Lodge, member of the Steelville Eastern Star, Scottish Rite of St. Louis and the Davisville Historical Society and a collector of antique tractors for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Ida Hewkin; son-in-law, Jesse Barnett; and brother-in-law, Bill Gander.
He will be missed by his son, Alfred “Freddy” (companion, Deana) Hewkin, Jr. of Valley Park, MO; daughter, Robin Barnett of Davisville, MO; brother, Robert Hewkin of Davisville, MO; sister, Judy Gander of Davisville, MO; two grandchildren, Dustin Hewkin of Imperial, MO and Jaime (Kyle) Turnbough of Viburnum, MO; four great-grandchildren, Hailey and Keira Turnbough and Gatlin “G” Hewkin and Brinley Hewkin; other relatives; and friends.
The Family received friends from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at Schrader Funeral Home in Ballwin, MO.
The Family also received friends from 11:00 a.m. until time of service on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 with Rev. Bob Coleman officiating. The eulogy was shared by Tammy Wachter. Special music of "One Day at a Time" and "Amazing Grace" was sung by Bob (on guitar) and Carol Coleman.
Committal prayer and interment were in the Turnbough Cemetery, Davisville, MO.
Honored to be casket bearers were Junior Reece, Mike Strode, Bobby Reece, Josh Cover, Oscar Bowen and Dustin Hewkin.
The Hewkin Family was served by the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home, Steelville, MO.
