Betty L. (Walker) Dunlap Garms

Betty L. Dunlap Garms, nee Walker, of Steelville, Missouri passed away Sunday, November 26, 2017 in Washington, Missouri at the age of 89 years, 10 months and 1 day. She was born January 25, 1928 in Steelville, Missouri to James Arnold Walker and Zula Farrar Walker. Betty was united in marriage to Clyde Dunlap in April of 1949. After his passing she was united in marriage in July of 2004 to Jesse "Jay" Garms who resides of the home.

Betty worked several years at Brown Shoe Company in Steelville but retired early due to her health. She was a faithful member of the Steelville Assembly of God Church for many years. Betty loved to bake different foods for her family especially during the holidays whether it was fudge, chess pies or graham cracker pies. Her family always enjoyed eating her delicious food. She also spent many hours sewing for herself and family. Her great niece remembers that Betty was always sewing her a new dress or outfit. Betty also had a love for the outdoors and growing beautiful flowers especially roses. She also loved children and everyone she met and was very family oriented.

She will be sadly missed by her husband of thirteen years, Jay Garms of Steelville, MO; brother, William "Bill" Walker of Steelville, MO; one sister Fern Campbell and husband Ed of Steelville, MO; special great niece, Sandy Richardson and Bill of Steelville, MO; step-children, Lavonda Jordan and husband Rick of St. Louis, MO and Vicki Adams and husband Rick of Sullivan, MO; sister-in-laws, Georgia Garms and Joyce Garms both of Steelville, MO;  nieces, nephews; step-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Clyde Dunlap; one brother, Woodrow "Woody" Walker and wife Edna; one sister, Wilma McCoy and husband Fred; sister-in-law, Dorothy Walker; brothers-in-law, Herman Dunlap and wife Frona, Amel Dunlap, Eldon Dunlap and wife Vetta, Vernon Dunlap and wife Lavell, Fred Garms and wife Hattie, Raymond Garms, Earl Garms and Larry Garms. 

The Family received friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of Steelville, MO.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO with Pastor Jerry Beers and Pastor Darrell Nichols officiating. Special music of "Amazing Grace" and "This is What Heaven Means to Me" was sung and played by Pastor Jerry Beers. Other music of "You Don't Need to Understand" was played.

Committal prayer and interment were in the Liberty Cemetery, Steelville, MO.

Honored to be casket bearers were Rick Jordan, Rick Adams, Anthony Richardson, Jerry Richardson, Randy Bell and Kevin Walker.

The Family was served by the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of Steelville, MO.
