Betty Hazel Obituary

Betty Lou Hazel, nee Ganes, of Steelville, Missouri passed away Monday, October 26, 2020 in Cuba Manor at the age of 91 years, 1 month and 9 days. Betty was born in Porterville, California to Franklin Guy Ganes and Bertha Irene Bascue Ganes. She was united in marriage on December 31, 1946 to Otis Coon in Porterville, CA and to this union two children were born.

Betty owned a construction company, a marina and a Convenience Store in Texas for a number of years and also worked as a real estate agent.

She loved to sing country music and play her guitar. Betty loved the outdoors and enjoyed her times fishing and deer hunting. She always loved seeing her family and going to reunions. Betty was also a very loving person and loved being a grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother and will be dearly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Coon; son, Benny Allen Coon; three brothers, Dean Ganes, Donald Lee Ganes and Clyde Ganes; and one sister, Ruby Viola Clem.

She is survived by her daughter, Carol Lee (Herb) Smelser of Steelville, MO; three grandchildren, Shelli Coon of Springfield, MO, Brian (Suzy) Barnes of Yuba, CA and Jenna (Joey) Richardson of Rosati, MO; seven great-grandchildren, Austin, Justin, Sara, LeAnn, Madison, Connor and Adalee; two great-great-grandchildren, Peyton and Haylee; sister, Phyllis (Gary)  Heitzmann of Ozark, MO; other relatives; and friends.

Graveside services were held at 3:00 p.m. at the Cedar Point Cemetery in Watonga, OK with Bill Bennett officiating. Special memories were shared by Gary Heitzmann and Brian Barnes.

Honored to be casket bearers were Joey Richardson, Connor Richardson, Austin Barnes and Justin Barnes.

The Hazel Family was served by the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of Steelville, MO.
