Brenda Kay (Callahan) Richards

Brenda Kay Richards, nee Callahan, of Steelville, Missouri, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2025 at Phelps Health in Rolla at the age of 70 years, 2 months and 30 days.

Brenda was born December 2, 1954 to Mildred Callahan. On June 28, 1980, she was united in marriage to Ron Richards in Parkersburg, West Virginia.

For several years, Brenda was a waitress and cook at Al’s Café. She loved cooking and could make some delicious peach cobblers and strawberry rhubarb pies which she won Grand Champion at the county fair three years in a row. Al Beers would display her winning ribbons in the café, so others would know just how good Brenda was at baking.

Brenda also worked for a few years with MOCA (Missouri Ozark Community Action) and Head Start where she assisted in their programs with budgets, school fairs and energy assistance options. She also helped in different areas with Red Cross in First Aid, CPR and as an instructor for six years. During the time when her husband, Ron, was a part of the Steelville Fire Dept., she always helped to provide meals for the victims that had a fire.

Brenda attended Center Point Church several years ago and professed her belief in Christ and was baptized.

Brenda had many good memories when she and a few of her friends, called the “Golden Girls”, would meet as often as they could and enjoy each-others company with lunch and talking.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mildred Callahan; brother, Freddy Callahan; and a half-brother, Danny Reeves.

She will be sadly missed by her husband of almost 45 years, Ron Richards of Steelville, MO; one daughter, Angie (Armand) Zefferi of Steelville, MO; one grand-daughter, Mya Zefferi, a dear friend, Virginia  Mae Halbert; other relatives; and friends.

The Family received friends from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral home in Steelville, MO.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating. Special music of "Amazing Grace", "Dancing in the Sky" and "Go Rest High" was played.

The family chose cremation as the final disposition.
