David Carl Kirkwood of Boss, Missouri passed away Sunday, May 10, 2020 at his home at the age of 64 years, 7 months and 9 days. He was born October 1, 1955 in St. Louis, Missouri to Luther Carl Kirkwood, Jr. and Margaret Halbert Kirkwood. David was raised by his grandparents, George and Irene Gibbs. On August 8, 1980 in Boss, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Debbie Sutton and to this union two sons were born.
David was employed at AMAX Lead Company for 13 years and a former member of the United Steelworkers. He was also the owner of Kirkwood Welding & Machine for many years. David was a hard worker and excelled as a welder and fabricator. He loved horses and going on many a trail ride. He enjoyed traveling out west, camping, fishing, hunting turkey and hunting deer. When his children were young, he coached their Little League team. He enjoyed playing in softball tournaments and when he was younger he also played basketball. David always loved the times he could spend with his two sons and his brother.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther Kirkwood, Jr. and Margaret Hampton; and sister, Cindy Keltner.
He is survived by his wife of almost forty years, Debbie Kirkwood of Boss, MO; two sons, Nolan (Samantha) Kirkwood and Ashley Kirkwood all of Boss, MO; one brother, Ricky Kirkwood of Boss, MO; four sisters, Lisa Komindo of Hawk Point, MO, Tammie (Matt) Threlkeld of St. Peters, MO, Karen Cason of Bland, MO and Cindy (Larry) Carpenter of St. Louis, MO; sisters-in-law, Teri (Tony) Page of Poplar Bluff, MO, Robin (Greg) Nichols of Park Hills, MO and Lori (John) Newman of Willard, MO; special nieces and nephews; other relatives; and friends
The Family received friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2020 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO with Bro. John Newman officiating. Special music of "Their Actions say it All" was sung by son, Nolan Kirkwood. Other music of "Cats in the Cradle", "That's My Job" and "Go Rest High" was played. A poem called "The Dash" was read by Lori Newman. Memories were shared by Nolan Kirkwood. Live Facebook streaming was at 1:00 p.m.
Committal prayer and interment were in the Boss Cemetery.
Honored to be casket bearers were Rachelle Kirkwood, Rick Kirkwood, Ashley Kirkwood, Nolan Kirkwood, Tracey Willhite and Dustin Kirkwood with honorary Mike Francis and Danny Chandler.
The Family was served by the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of Steelville, MO.
