Douglas Pence Obituary

Douglas Duane Pence of Steelville, Missouri passed away on Monday, July 15, 2024 at the Harry S. Truman Veterans’ Hospital in Columbia at the age of 62 years, 9 months and 29 days. Doug was born September 16, 1961 in Davenport, IA to Cecil Earl Pence and Donna Jean Ferguson Pence. He graduated from Memphis High School in Memphis, Missouri in 1981. In 1982, Doug left for the U.S. Army boot camp. He was united in marriage to Cindy Dochterman in 1982 and to this union three children were born.

Doug served his country honorably for 6 years in the U.S. Army and being discharged in 1988. He later worked towards an associate's degree in Telecommunication. In 1999, he went to work at Steelville Telephone until 2016. Afterwards, he became employed with Complete Splicing CO until his health declined.

On September 2, 2006, he was united in marriage to Linda Faulkner which expanded his family and added another daughter.

Doug had many loves and enjoyed life. He loved to watch NASCAR whether on tv or in person. He loved camping, driving to the mountains and traveling to the Southwest area of the U.S., especially New Mexico. Doug loved to play his guitar and sing, whether it was country songs by John Denver, Hank Williams, Jr., Don Williams or rock and roll from the 80’s by Queen. He loved to spend time bar-b-qing for his family or making his “famous” Peanut Brittle which he learned from his dad who had acquired the recipe in the 1960’s and sharing with his family and friends. But most of all, he definitely loved his family more than anything and relished the times he had with them.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Donna Pence.

He will be forever missed by his wife of almost 18 years, Linda Pence of Steelville, MO; one son, Gregory Allen (Brittany) Pence of Steelville, MO; three daughters, Alison Marie (John) Lauer of Ronkonkoma Long Island, NY, Connie Marie (Eric) Kitchen of Sullivan, MO and Heather Leann (fiancé, Robert Hanson) Pence  of Oklahoma City, OK;  four grandchildren, Dominick (partner, Autumn Landers-Grill) Kitchen, Jordan Kitchen, Rileigh Hubbard and Christopher Kyle Pence; one brother, Mike (Kay) Pence of Eldridge, IA; two sisters, Amy Sue Pence and Teresa Jo Pence both of Davenport, IA; former wife, Cindy Jancek of Independence, MO; other relatives; and many friends.
