Edwin Wright Obituary

Edwin Earl Wright, of Washington, Missouri and formerly of Steelville, passed away Sunday, September 14, 2025 in Washington, Missouri at the age of 100 years, 9 months and 6 days. Edwin was born December 8, 1924 in Steelville, MO to Lewy Wright and Flossie Perkins Wright.

Edwin graduated from Steelville High School in 1942 and joined the U.S. Army in 1943 where he served honorably in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Campaign and other locations until 1945. He was awarded two Bronze Stars, a Purple Heart and several other Ribbons, Service Bars and Buttons for his dedicated service.

In April of 1948, Edwin was united in marriage to his friend from youth and love of his life, Faye Lorena Weber, and to this union one son and two daughters were born.

In October of 1949, he became an officer of the Missouri State Highway Patrol in Sikeston, MO. After a few years, he was promoted to Sgt. when relocating to Piedmont, MO and a Lieutenant when moving to Popular Bluff. Edwin retired in 1980 after 31 years with the Highway Patrol and was the oldest living retired patrolman up until his death. He and Faye  moved to Rogersville for several years where Faye retired from the office of the Superintendent of Schools and they began enjoying fishing and floating on the river. They both loved spending time on cruises and traveling extensively throughout the United States and other countries. In the last couple of years, he and Faye moved to Washington, MO to be near their daughter and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewy and Flossie Wright; his wife, Faye, of 77 years; daughter, Linda Lutes; two brothers, John Wright and Calvin Wright; one sister, Gladine Wright; five brothers-in-law, Bill Weber, George Weber, John Weber, infant brothers, Haskel Leroy Weber and Larry Joe Weber; four sisters-in-law, Wilma (Richard) Nabe, Sue (Richard) Asplin and Laverne (Paul) McPeters.

Edwin is survived by his son, William “Bill” (Debbie) Wright of Maryland Heights, MO; daughter, Marsha (Jim) Glosemeyer of Marthasville, MO; 6 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Jane (Ed) Clinton of St. James, MO; sisters-in-law, Linda Weber of Cherryville, MO and Bonnie (Clarence) Garrison of Steelville, MO; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends.

The Family received friends from 11:00 A.M. until service time on Friday, September 19, 2025 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO.

Funeral Services were held at 12:00 P.M. with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating.  Memories were shared by grandson, Todd Lutes and special music of "I'll Fly Away", "I'll Meet You in the Morning" and "The Far Side Banks of Jordan" was sung by Rev. Jerry Beers and Shelley Beers.

Committal prayer, interment with Full Military Honors by the U.S. Army, VFW Rolla Post 2025 and Patriot Guard were in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Steelville, MO. The procession was led to the cemetery by an officer of the Missouri Highway Patrol and the Patriot Guard.

Honored to be casket bearers were Todd Lutes, Brad Clinton, Isaac Edwards, Bill "Will" Weber, Troy Lutes and Travis Clinton.

The Wright Family was served by the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of Steelville, MO.
