Erma Abney Obituary

Erma Lee Abney, nee Midyett, of Davisville, MO passed away Wednesday, November 17, 2021 in Washington County, MO at the age of 82 years, 7 months and 26 days. She was born March 22, 1939 at Viburnum, MO to Firman Leonard Midyett and Virgie Emaline Mincher Midyett. On December 29, 1956 she was united in marriage to Devon Abney in Hernando, MS.

In 1969, she and Devon began their business, Abney’s Garage and Wrecker Service in Viburnum with Erma doing the bookkeeping. For many years, they were members of the United Baptist Church in Viburnum until it closed. They then began attending Freewill Baptist.

Through the years she enjoyed bowling in Viburnum, riding horses, fishing, water skiing and being along Devon’s side watching him dirt car racing on many a Friday and Sunday night for years. Most of all she loved all of her family and being with them.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Firman and Virgie Midyett; three brothers, Lawrence Midyett, Johnny Midyett and Leonard ( Betty) Midyett; and four sisters, Julie (Wilson) Dotson, Lula (Johnny) Brakefield, Beulah Midyett and Lura (Ken) Bazzell.

She will be sadly missed by her husband of almost sixty-five years, Devon Abney of Davisville, MO, four sons, Mike (Roberta) Abney and Kevin (Kim) Abney all of Davisville, MO, Jeff Abney of Rolla, MO, Ron (Jenny) Abney of Owensville, MO; daughter, Debbie Abney (Randy) Skasick of Cuba, MO; step-son, Rick (Debbie) Abney of Pinellas Park, FL; sisters-in-law, Carol Midyett of Steelville, MO and Lovetta Midyett of Bourbon, MO; nine grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; special friends and caregivers, Kim Smith and Glenda Brakefield; other relatives; and friends.

 

The Family received friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, November 22, 2021 and from 11:00 a.m. until time of service, November 23at the Britton- Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 with Rev. Charles Sutton officiating. Special music of "Broken Bread" and "Blessed Hope"  sung by Kevin and Kim Abney was played on CD. Other music of "Go Rest High" was also played.

Committal prayer and interment were in the Upper Indian Creek Cemetery at Viburnum, MO.

Honored to be casket bearers were Michael Abney, Noah Abney, Logan Chilton, Karsyn Creech, Caleb Land, Lincoln Ray, Ben Land and Zach Gregory.

The Abney Family was served by the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of Steelville, MO.
