Evelyn "Louise" Turnbough Obituary

Evelyn “Louise” Turnbough, nee Midyett, of Cuba, Missouri, formerly of Steelville, MO, passed away Monday, October 17, 2022 in her home at the age of 90 years, 11 months and 5 days. She was born November 12, 1931 in Steelville to Ernest L. Midyett and Irma M. Kehner Midyett.

Louise was united in marriage to Gilbert “Gib” Turnbough on July 29, 1950 and to this union one daughter was born.

Louise graduated from the Cherryville High School. While in high school she enjoyed playing softball and was the pitcher.  Later on, when their daughter was young, she played on a community league for a while.

Louise was employed at Brown Shoe Company in Steelville and retired after thirty-five years.

She and Gilbert were members of the First Baptist Church in Cuba in their later years.  In their former church, they loved working with the young boys in RA’s for many years. Louise always had a strong faith and she and Gilbert raised their daughter in a Christian home.

Louise always enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening. Most of all she loved being with her family.

She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Janet (Vernon) Bradley of Eureka, MO; one granddaughter, Laura (Jeremy) Jones of Broken Arrow, OK; three great-grandchildren, Carson, Jaylee and Sydney Whisler; three bonus great-grandchildren, Grace, Alyssa and Nathaniel Jones; one brother, Bob Midyett of St. Louis, MO; sister-in-law, Ella Mary Midyett of Steelville, MO; other relatives; and many friends.

Louise was preceded in death by parents, Ernest and Irma Midyett; husband, Gilbert "Gib" Turnbough; brothers, William “Bill” Midyett, Earl (Rosalie) Midyett and infant, Harry Midyett; one sister, Lorraine Street; sister-in-law, Kathryn Midyett; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Clarence (Opal) Turnbough, Glen (Juanita) Turnbough, Verniece (Hack) Lea, Frances (Frank) Guess and Pauline (Walter) Walden.

The Family received friends from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO.

Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2022 with Rev. Jim Moore officiating. Music of "Even in the Valley" and "I Chose Christ" was sung by granddaughter, Laura Jones and great-granddaughters, Sydney and Jaylee Whisler and Alyssa Jones.

Committal prayer and interment were in the Steelville Cemetery. Honored to be casket bearers were B.J. Midyett, Carson Whisler, Jerry Midyett, Jeremy Jones, Nathaniel Jones, Steve Street and Justin Kinney.

Memorials may be made in Louise’s name to the Steelville Cemetery or Cuba First Baptist Church.

The Turnbough Family was served by the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home.
