Genevieve Hajek Obituary

Genevieve Barbara Hajek, of Steelville, Missouri passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2025 in her home at the age of 90 years, 3 months and 19 days. She was born October 3, 1934 in Jennings, Missouri to Arthur Conrad Barkey and Katherine Elisabeth Feick Barkey.

Genevieve grew up in Jennings, MO and graduated from the Fairview High School. In 1953, she was united in marriage in St. Louis to William Charles Hajek and to this union three sons and five daughters were born. While living in Maryland Heights, Genevieve enjoyed helping take care of the children who were her neighbor’s friends and being a member of a card club for several years. Later in life she and William moved to Steelville where they enjoyed the country life, but in 2006, Genevieve’s husband, William passed away. She continued her life in Steelville enjoying flower gardening and feeding the many birds in her yard.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Katherine Barkey; her husband, William Hajek; five brothers; and five sisters.

She will be sadly missed by her 8 children, Deborah “Debbie” (Art) Hassinger of Breckenridge, MO,  William “Bill” (Sharon) Hajek of Cincinnati, OH, Michele “Micky” Hajek of St. Louis, MO, Cynthia “Cindy” (Tom) McCord of Columbia, MO, Randolph “Randy” (Jan) Hajek of St. Paul, MO, Michael (Jan) Hajek of Collinsville, IL;   Lisa Hilliker of Steelville, MO and Judith “Judy” ( Barry) Linan of St. Ann, MO;  14 grandchildren; Erik (Felicia Sparks) Hajek, Amy (Tim) Johnston, Chris, John, Timothy McCord, Samantha Hajek, Suzanne (Ronnie) Gunter, Bryan (Tiffany) Hajek, Kristen (Dan) Schuler, Rodney (Nicky) Friederich, Harley and Elisabeth Hilliker, and Kayla and Henry Linan; and 11 great-grandchildren, Paxton Hajek, Austin and Addy Zugg, Merritt Johnston, Brenden and Tayla Hajek, Cole and Jace Friederich and Owen, Ty and Evie Schuler with one on the way; sister-in-law, Patti (Mike) Gober; other relatives; and friends.

The Family chose cremation as the final disposition.

An Inurnment will be at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, April 11, 2025 at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at the Trinity Free Will Baptist Church at 12143 Old St. Charles Road, Bridgeton, MO 63044

Memorials may be made in Genevieve's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105
