Georgia Mitchell Obituary

Georgia Mae Mitchell, nee Summers, of Memphis, Tennessee, formerly of Steelville, passed away Friday, April 3, 2020 at the age of 86 years, 9 months and 4 days. She was born June 30, 1933 on the Summers farm in Crawford County, Missouri to Clarence and Katherine Mullen Summers.

Georgia moved away from her hometown to Kansas City a few years after graduating in 1951 from Steelville High School and where she met her future husband, Levi Mitchell, who was stationed in the Navy at the time.  On October 28, 1956, Georgia was united in marriage to Levi and to this union two children were born. After Levi retired from the Navy, they moved back to Crawford County and Georgia became employed at the local Peoples Bank retiring from there in 1993. Georgia attended the Steelville Presbyterian Church and was very involved in the Steelville Ambulance district in which she was a member and the president of the board of directors for a number of years. While serving on the board, her major concern was the financial condition of the ambulance district where her frugalness helped keep it intact.

Georgia was an avid reader and in later years enjoyed doing puzzles. Most of all she loved her children and all of her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Clarence and Katherine Summers; her husband, Levi B. Mitchell; one sister, Betty (Windell) Bryan; and brothers-in-law, Richard “Dick” McInnis and Louis Picarella.

She will be sadly missed by her son, Mark (Sherry) Mitchell of Germantown, TN; one daughter, Nanette (Mitch) Dean of Lakeland, TN; three grandchildren, Christopher (Wen-Xi) Pitts, Taylor Pitts and Matthew Mitchell; two great-grandchildren, Alexa and Aubrey Pitts; one brother, John (Joan) Summers of Cedar Hill, MO; two sisters, Clara Jo Picarella of Festus, MO and Beverly McInnis of St. James, MO; other relatives; and many friends.
