Irvin Jesse Conaway, Jr., age 97, of Cherryville, Missouri passed away Friday, January 14, 2022 at his home. He was born April 16, 1924 in Cherryville to Irvin J. Conaway and Lena Martin Conaway.
Irvin graduated from Cherryville High School in 1942. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army from 1944-1946 receiving an Asian-Pacific Theater Ribbon, two Bronze Battle Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, a Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and an Army of Occupation Medal. In November of 1948, he was united in marriage to Mary Bolling and to this union one son and four daughters were born.
Irvin was employed at McDonnel Douglas in St. Louis retiring after thirty-one years. After retirement he and Mary returned back to his home area of Cherryville to their farm. He spent much of his time raising cattle, cutting wood and driving to the sale barn in Salem. He had been a member of the Machinist Union in St. Louis and a member of the Davisville VFW.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Irvin and Lena Conaway; three brothers, Lawrence Conaway, Noel (Velma) Conaway and Luther (Emily) Conaway; one sister, Geneva (Clyde) Green; and brother-in-law, Leo Brown.
Irvin will be sadly missed by his wife of almost 74 years, Mary Conaway; one son, Dr. Dean (Deborah) Conaway of Big Fork, MT; four daughters, Judy (Buddy) Benton of Decatur, IL, Sherry (John) Hanneken of Camdenton, MO and Janet Conaway and Shannon Conaway of Cherryville, MO; seven grandchildren, Jeremy (Jan) Benton, Joshua (Kassie) Benton, Lindsey Battle, Kristina Conaway and companion, Eric Cordova, Sarah (Tyler Croft) Conaway, John (fiancé Britney Harriman) Hanneken, Jacob (Amelia) Hanneken: seven great-grandchildren, Bailey Benton, Carter Benton, Max Battle IV, Kimmie Battle, Sequoyah Cordova, Maverick Cordova and Acacia Cordova; one brother, Paul (Mildred) Conaway of Cuba, MO; one sister, Lorraine Brown of Owensville, MO; sister-in-law, Mildred Conaway of Cherryville, MO; other relatives; and friends.
The Family received friends from 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 23, 2022 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO.
The Family requests that masks be worn during the visitation and the funeral. They thank you for your consideration.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 23, 2022 with Bro. Ryan Penrose officiating. Special music of "Green Pastures", "Far Side of Jordan" and "We Know Where He Is" was played. A special poem was read by Jan Benton.
Committal prayer and interment with Full Military Honors by the U.S. Army were in the Davisville Cemetery.
Honored to be casket bearers were Jeremy Benton, Joshua Benton, Carter Benton, John Hanneken, Jacob Hanneken and Ryan Penrose.
