James "Jim" Chandler Stroup Obituary

James “Jim” Edward Chandler Stroup of Bourbon, Missouri, formerly of Steelville, Missouri, passed away Monday, February 13, 2023 at his son’s home at the age of 78 years, 11 months and 3 days.

He was born March 10, 1944 in Steelville to Floyd and Goldie Stroup Chandler. Jim grew up in Steelville graduating from Cherryville High School. He served his country honorably in the U. S. Army from 1965 to 1967 in the 501st Aviation Battalion as a helicopter door gunner with the "Firebirds." Jim was awarded the Air Medal for his acts of heroism along with other medals during the Vietnam War.

Jim was united in marriage to Gloria Jean Hamilton on September 9, 1969 in Cuba, MO and to this union one son was born.

Jim was employed at Paramount Headwear, retiring after several years. He enjoyed shooting his black powder gun and fishing.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Floyd Chandler and Goldie Stroup Dunn; his wife, Gloria Stroup; two brothers, Richard Chandler and Kevin Dunn; one sister, Linda (Delmar) McKellips; brother-in-law, Robert Callahan; and one great-grandson, Bennett Kitchen.

He is survived by one son, James “Jim” (Lisa) Stroup of Steelville, MO; three brothers, John (Cindy) Chandler of Davisville, MO, Robert Chandler of Steelville, MO and Kenneth W. (Sharon) Dunn of Cherryville, MO; two sisters, Carol Callahan of Cuba, MO and Virginia (Rod) Klepatz of MN; three grandchildren, Billie Jean (Mark) Kitchen of Bourbon, MO, James Lee (Liz) Stroup II of Steelville, MO and Timothy (Tracy) Mansfield of Springfield, MO; five great-grandchildren, Jace, Adalee and Haiden Stroup and Braden and Tucker Kitchen; other relatives; and friends.

The Family chose cremation as the final disposition.

There will be a Private Family inurnment at Martin-Trask Cemetery at a later date.

The Stroup Family was served by the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of Steelville, MO.
