James "Jim" Snodgrass, Jr. Obituary

James “Jim” Lloyd Snodgrass, Jr., of Steelville, MO, passed away Monday, January 24, 2022, at the age of 98 years, 4 months and 23 days.  He was born September 1, 1923, in Vichy, Missouri to James Lloyd Snodgrass, Sr. and Lucy Adeline Davis Snodgrass. On December 27, 1946, he was united in marriage to Martha Louise Drewel and to this union four sons were born.

Jim served his country honorably during WWII in the U.S. Army Air Corps receiving a Victory Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, a Bronze Star, a Good Conduct Medal and Battle Stars for Central Germany and the Crossing of the Rhine Campaigns.

For twenty-eight years, he was the Shelter Insurance Agent in Steelville assisting his friends, neighbors and acquaintances with their insurance needs. Jim was a long-time member of the Steelville Presbyterian Church. He was also an avid member of the Owensville Gun Club. Following his return from military service, Jim owned and operated a gas station followed by a full-service auto repair and tire shop in Owensville Mo.  Jim was a self-taught mechanic who loved his antique show cars, especially the 1938 Buick Roadmaster.  He was proud to include Roadmaster in area parades and car shows. Jim loved to hunt and spent many days hunting deer and turkey in Texas and Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James “Lloyd”, Sr. and Adeline Snodgrass; his wife; Martha Snodgrass; infant son, Lester Paul Snodgrass; parents-in-law, George and Lucille Drewel; brothers, Wilbur “Bill” (Nell) Snodgrass, William “Bob” (Virginia) Snodgrass, Buel Pershing “Jake” (Mary Lou) Snodgrass, Harvey Allen Snodgrass and Paul (Genevieve) Snodgrass; sisters, Jewel (John) Cruts, Norma Dean (Spence) Spencer and Gold Dean (Rudy) Rodriquez; brothers-in-law, Jim Drewel, George Drewel and Don (Barbara) Drewel; and sister-in-law, Pat (Maurice “Duke”) Duquenoy.

He is survived by three sons, Johnny (Tammy) Snodgrass of St. James, MO, Dan Snodgrass (Summer) of Nixa, MO and Tim Snodgrass of Steelville, MO; sisters-in-law, Verna Snodgrass of Owensville, MO and Terry Drewel of Licking MO, Evelyn Drewel of Union MO and Della "Faye" Dautenhahn (Bill Cloud) of Slidell, LA; five grandchildren, John Lawrence (Heather) Snodgrass of Cape Girardeau, MO, Sherri (Mike) Cornick of Steelville, MO, Jacob (Amy) Snodgrass of Aurora, CO, Jennifer (Dustin) Ensign of Cameron, MO and Matthew Snodgrass of Cameron; five great-grandchildren, Taylor (Daulton) Conaway, Andrew Cornick, Oliver Snodgrass, Corin Ensign and Xander Ensign; one great-great-granddaughter, Evangeline Cornick; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 30, 2022, in the Snodgrass Cemetery at Vienna, MO with Rev. Wendy Downing officiating.

Committal prayer and interment with Full Military Honors will be in the Snodgrass Cemetery.

The Snodgrass Family was served by the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of Steelville, MO.
