Jetta Ann Ives (Kinnison) of O’Fallon, Missouri passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, January 23 at the age of 84 years, 9 months and 15 days. She was born April 8, 1939 in St. Louis, Missouri to Joseph Kinnison and Jetta (Hager). On December 10, 1955 in St. Louis, she was united in marriage to Alan Dale Ives of Steelville; to this union six children were born (of which, Elizabeth did not survive beyond birth).
Jetta was the youngest of nine children (eight sisters and one brother). She was so proud of her family and remained close with all of them throughout her life. Jetta was a deep follower of God and the Catholic religion, and she raised her children to know the Lord. Growing up in St. Louis in the 1940’s and 1950’s, Jetta enjoyed playing basketball and bowling and met Dale hanging out with mutual friends. Soon after they met, they got married and started a family. Dale introduced her to his extended family in Steelville where they took her in as one of their own and always remained in touch.
Jetta was very crafty and a perfectionist at everything she did. She loved to sew and became a master seamstress. Over the years, Jetta made elegant dresses, Halloween costumes, christening gowns, figurines and just about anything you can imagine. Oftentimes, Jetta would be inspired by a project and escape to the basement where she had a custom-built sewing room for days to return with a masterpiece. Her talents went way beyond sewing; Jetta had a brilliantly creative mind, tremendous carpentry skills and loved to garden. However, as talented of a person Jetta was at everything she did, spending time with her family and friends is what Jetta loved to do most.
Jetta is survived by her five children; Dane Ives (Ruth), Tony Ives (Lynne), Deanna Janis (Wayne), Ed, and Daryl Ives (Laura); fourteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
The family received friends from 2-6 PM on Sunday, January 28th at Schrader Funeral Home in Ballwin, MO.
A funeral mass was held at 11AM on Monday, January 29th at St. Michael Catholic Church in Steelville with Father Tony Onyeihe officiating. Music was provided by organist Karin West.
Committal prayer and interment were held immediately following at the Schwieder Cemetery.
Honored to be casket bearers were her children, Dane Ives, Ed Ives, Tony Ives, Daryl Ives and Deanna Janis.
