Joan Jones Obituary

Joan Belle (Taylor) Jones, daughter of Leon and Esther Taylor, was born June 7, 1932 in St Louis, MO and died peacefully at home on October 22, 2022.  On February 15, 1950 Joan married Frank M. Jones.  This marriage was blessed with five children.  Following Frank’s death in 2017, Joan lived with her son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Cindy, in Steelville, MO.

Joan worked in several office settings, skilled in typing, stenography, and bookkeeping.  Once the family started growing, she stayed home to raise her children.  Frank and Joan worked together throughout their marriage, building the homes they lived in and taking care of family responsibilities.  Joan was always by Frank’s side, working, gardening, building, fishing, and playing ball with the kids.  She was a perfect help mate and mother, and later, a grandmother and great-grandmother.  The kids called her Grandma Joannie.

Following Frank’s retirement, they traveled extensively.  They spent winters in Texas, and summers at a small fishing lake in Manitoba, Canada.  Joan loved fishing, and was very successful in catching the big ones.  She loved to travel, and loved her motorhome.  Alaska was a favorite destination.

Joan was a wonderful cook, and loved having family around, especially on the holidays.  Thanksgiving at Grandma’s house was a five-day celebration with food, games, and music. She made wonderful pies, cakes, and cookies.  Her sweet tooth never diminished, with ice cream her favorite sweet.

Joan is survived by all five of her children, Esther (Dan) Wiese of St. Louis, MO, Lonnie (Candace) Jones of Springfield, MO, Frank M. Jones, Jr. of Colorado Springs, CO, Ed (Cindy) Jones of Steelville, MO, and Jeffrey (Sandi) Jones of Theodosia, MO.   She is also survived by her sister, Barbara Wilkinson, and brother, Joe (Dianne) Taylor, brothers in law, Jack Jones and Larry (Jane) Jones, sister-in-law Pat Smith and many nieces and nephews.

Her grandchildren are Jack (Erin)Wiese, Hannah Wiese (Eric Horrell), Josh (Tracey) Jones, Trey (Christina) Jones, Amanda (Matt) Sherrill, Christine (Rex) Lang, Nathan (Chelsea) Jones.  Great Grandchildren are Kevin, Caitlyn, Taylor, Jackson, Ben, Jameson, Remington, Lorelei, Claire, Annabelle, Jacob, Ethan, Madi, Tyler, and Chase.
