John Edgar Obituary

John Richard Edgar of Steelville, Missouri passed away Friday, February 11, 2022 in Cuba at the age of 80 years and 19 days. He was born January 23, 1942 in Bonne Terre, Missouri to parents, Otho and Louisa Dollar Edgar. John grew up in the Festus/Crystal City area, graduating high school at Festus. He entered the U.S. Navy after high school honoring his country by serving from 1959-1965. After the Navy, John worked with his dad in the construction business in the Festus/Crystal city area. As soon as he could he was fishing and hunting again back here in Missouri after being in Okinawa for years as a radio/communication technician.

John was united in marriage to Glenda Boyer and later to Shar Karley and became the father of one son and four daughters. He became a Journeyman carpenter and worked in that field for eight years for his father and other companies. He joined a biker club, Free Riders, along with working on Harley motorcycles and owning one. He shot competitively at matches across the Midwest with his different rifles. He loved gardening and riding horses later in life, loved playing pool and bowling. Afterwards, he went to work at the Chrysler\UAW for twelve years and later was employed in his company, J & S Enterprises, in the local area, as an Appliance/HVAC repair man retiring after eighteen years.

John was of the Catholic faith while living in the Festus/Desoto area. He was a past member of the UAW and past member of the Crystal City Junior Chamber of Commerce. John coached baseball for many years in Steelville for his son Beau on many different teams. He later became a participant in lifting weights at various gyms his son, Beau, managed throughout the years. Over the years, he enjoyed playing gospel music with Richard Ryerson. He loved his Monte Carlo in early years after the Navy and his Dart and any old Chevy trucks later on in life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otho Edgar and Louisa Dollar; and recently his daughter, Mandy Watkins; and nephew, Gary Lynn Edgar, Jr.

He will be sadly missed by his one son, Beau R. Edgar of Steelville, MO; two daughters, Lanette Hussey of St. Charles, MO and Tamra (Douglas Cook) Curry of St. Peters, MO; step-daughter, Melonie Wolfe (companion, Orville Licklider) of Steelville, MO; one brother, Gary Lynn Edgar of De Soto, MO; step-mother, Paula Edgar of De Soto, MO; seventeen grandchildren, Candi Creviston, Jeremie Chotrow, Northan Chotrow, Kaitlyn Hussey, Faith and Hope Humphrey, Mackenzie and Molly Augtoll, Gavin Schlef, Andrew Sperry and Seth Curry, Erica, Mary and Xavier Edgar, Scheron Wolfe, James and Hope Trowbridge; several great-grandchildren; nephews, Shawn and Robert Edgar of De Soto, MO; other relatives; and friends.

The Family received friends from 2:00 p.m. until service time on Friday, February 18, 2022 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO. Live streaming on Britton-Bennett Funeral Home FaceBook page was done for the service.

A Celebration of Life was held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, February 18, 2022 with Bro. John Brice officiating. Special music of "Hurt", "In the Arms of an Angel" and "Hotel California" was played. Other music played was "Freebird" and "Running against the Wind."

Full Military Honors was held immediately following the service by the U.S. Navy along with the St. James VFW Post 5608 and Patriot Guard.

The Family chose cremation as the final disposition. Inurnment will be in the Jefferson Barracks Cemetery, St. Louis, MO.

The Edgar Family was served by the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO.
