Lawerence Dewayne “Murf” Ransom was born December 13, 1941 in Steelville, MO to Dewey and Nora Ransom, he passed away peacefully at his home in Cook Station, MO on June 24, 2025.

Murf was born and raised in Steelville, Mo and moved in recent years to his son’s farm in Cook Station, Mo where he loved to be most. In his early years Murf worked at Pea Ridge Mine and then later for his son’s excavating business before retiring. Murf loved to hunt and fish and be outdoors and spend time with his family. He was a jokester and was always willing to do anything to make everyone around him laugh. He was known best by his kids and grandkids for his signature dance move, The Murphy Shuffle. He was known by many names but his favorite was, Poppy, to his grandkids and later, Big Poppy, by his great grand kids. His absence will leave a huge hole in the lives all who knew and loved him. His quick wit, humor, dance moves, and jokes will be missed forever.

Murf was proceeded in death by his parents, his siblings; James (Elaine) Ransom, Ava (Bud) Viehman, Bill Ransom, and Janet Eckert, his beloved daughter in law; Alisha Ransom, and nephew; JT Ransom.

He will be deeply missed by his boys; Chris Ransom and Mike (Mary) Ransom both of Steelville, MO, Brian (Charlene) Ransom of Montgomery City, MO, James “Nuck” (Bridget) Ransom of Sullivan, MO; his longtime companion and her daughter, Shirley Lyons and Tammy Benton of Cook Station, MO. His grandchildren; Erica (Justin) Mincks of Rogersville, MO, Erin (Keegan) Callow of Wentzville, MO, Molly (Wes) Greathouse and Michelle (Blake) Schneider of Steelville, MO, Korey Ransom, Jacob Ransom, and Macey Ransom all of Warrenton, MO, Haven Ransom of Cuba, MO, Libbi Ransom, Drake Ransom and Brayden Ransom all of Sullivan, MO; Great grandchildren, Fisher Mincks, Poppi Mincks, Madi Ransom, Sadie Schneider, Owen Greathouse, Bryar Callow, and Ava Schneider; Siblings, Wanda (Bill) Bogue of Cuba, MO, Steve (Linda) Ransom, Larry Ransom and Jeff Ransom all of Steelville, MO and Pat (Allan) Brown of Cherryville, MO; sister-in-law, Marilyn Ransom of Steelville, MO; brother-in-law, Steve Eckert of Steelville, MO; nieces, nephews, cousins; and friends.

Murf chose cremation as his final disposition and in following with his wishes the family will have a private memorial at a later date.
