Lorraine Inez Brown, nee Conaway, of Owensville, MO, formerly of Cherryville, passed away Monday, May 26, 2025 in her home at the age of 92 years, 8 months and 20 days. She was born September 6, 1932 at Cherryville, to Irvin Jessie Conaway, Sr. and Lena Martin Conaway. She grew up on the farm and graduated as Valedictorian of her 1950 class at Cherryville High School.
Lorraine was united in marriage to Leo Robert Brown on July 11, 1951 in Dupo, IL and to this union 2 daughters and 1 son were born along with her also helping to raise her step-son.
She attended the Owensville Assembly of God Church and was very strong in her faith, giving her heart to the Lord as a young girl while attending the Cherryville Pentecostal Church. Lorraine was a prayer warrior for all of her family members throughout the years.
Lorraine was employed as a food service supervisor in many nursing homes in Texas, Kansas and Missouri for several years, retiring in December of 2017 at the age of 85. She was very dedicated to her job and made sure the residents had good meals each day with her special touch.
Lorraine enjoyed reading, embroidering, fishing, swimming, playing cards and board games with her grandchildren and listening to Jimmy Swaggert in her later years when her health restricted her from attending church. She also enjoyed writing letters to loved ones and sending cards. Her family and friends were always very important to her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Irvin and Lena Conaway; her husband of fifty-five years, Leo Brown; stepson, Larry Brown; son-in-law, Russell Faulkner; five brothers, Irvin Conaway, Paul Conaway, Luther (Emily) Conaway, Lawrence (Mildred "Millie") Conaway and Noel (Velma) Conaway; one sister, Geneva (Clyde) Green; and one grandson, Bobby Brown.
Lorraine will be sadly missed by her two daughters, Deborah Faulkner of Owensville, MO and Sheila (Michael) Padgett of Brownsboro, TX; one son Timothy (Maria) Brown of Wildwood, MO; 10 grandchildren, Steve Brown, Mike Brown, Chris Simpson, Josh (Becky) Simpson, Colet (Mark) Davis, Lynn (Sean) Scott, Butch (Kate) Simpson, Felicia Stewart, Ashley Brown and Jessica (Nic) Deitzman; 14 great-grandchildren, Chandra Cannon, Jacob Cannon, Andrew Simpson, Micah Simpson, Holli Simpson, Emily Stewart, Zachary Simpson, Leo Stewart, Lena Stewart, Aubrey Dietzman, Easton Dietzman, Kelly Goines, Courtney Smith and Cierra Brown; 19 great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Mary Conaway of Cherryville, MO and Mildred Conaway of Cuba, MO; nieces, nephews; other relatives; and many friends.
The Family received friends from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 30, 2025 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2025 with Pastor Leslie Dority and Rev. Kevin Runge officiating. Memories were shared by grandchildren, Felicia Stewart and Josh Simpson. Special music of "Lord Lead Me Home", "Peace in the Valley" and "In the Sweet, By and By" was sung and played by Carol and Bob Coleman.
Committal prayer and interment were in the Freeman Cemetery, Cherryville, MO.
Honored to be casket bearers were Leo David Stewart, Christopher Simpson, Joshua Simpson, Richard Simpson, Andrew Simpson, Nicholas Dietzman, Mark Davis and Steve Conaway.
The Brown Family was served by the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of Steelville, MO.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Lorraine’s name to Freeman Cemetery.
