Marilyn Hewkin Obituary

Marilyn Marie Hewkin, nee Enke, of Cuba, Missouri passed away Monday, October 23, 2023 at St. Clare Hospital in Fenton at the age of 88 years, 9 months and 27 days.

Marilyn was born December 27, 1934 at Bem, MO to Herman Julius Enke and Clara Marie Berkemeyer Enke. She grew up in that area and graduated from the Owensville High School. On May 24, 1952 she was united in marriage to James Albert Hewkin in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas and were married over 57 years at his passing.

Marilyn worked several years in the Crawford County Collector’s office and over twenty years in the County Clerk’s office. She grew up attending St. John’s United Church of Christ in Bem and then later Steelville First Assembly of God Church and Calvary Assembly of God of Cuba.

She always enjoyed working in her yard and traveling with her husband, Jim, and her sister Marlene and brother-in-law, Emery Clonts, throughout the years. Most of all she loved her family, enjoying her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Clara Enke; her husband, Jim Hewkin; one great-granddaughter, Sadie Summers; one brother, Charles William Enke; two sisters, Joan (Marvin) Gardener and Shirlie (Bob) Bradshaw; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Emery Clonts, Lenny (Carol) Hewkin, Buster (Vera) Hewkin, Rodney (Shirley) Hewkin, Donald (June) Hewkin, Homer (Leora) Hewkin, Darlene Cape, Colleen Woolbright, Naomi (Walter) Boll and Eloise (Jay) Garms.

Marilyn will be sadly missed by her six children, Rev. David (Zenetta) Hewkin of Jefferson City, MO, Mark (Alice) Hewkin of Sullivan, MO, Tommy (Brandy) Hewkin and Jimmy Hewkin of Cuba, MO, Debbie (Kerry, Sr.) Summers of Steelville, MO and Elizabeth “Beth” (Shawn) Ryerson of Cuba, MO; 20 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Marlene Clonts of Steelville, MO; two brothers-in-law, Jim Cape of Cuba, MO and Glen Woolbright of St. Louis, MO; other relatives; and many friends.

The Family received friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 4, 2023 with Rev. David Hewkin, Rev. Jerry Beers and Rev. Terry Hogan officiating. Special music of "Goodness of God" was sung and played by the Hewkin Family and accompanied on piano by Alice Hewkin, "Give Me Jesus" sung and played by Mark Hewkin Jr., "Scars in Heaven" sung by David and Clara Hewkin and Beth Ryerson and "Wish You Were Here" sung by Kerry and Debbie Summers. Precious memories were shared by granddaughter, Jennifer Moreland.

Committal prayer and interment were in the St. John's United Church of Christ Cemetery, Bem, MO.

Honored to be casket bearers were Matthew Hewkin, Tommy Hewkin, Michael Hewkin, Kerry Summers, Sr., Kerry Summers, Jr. and Shawn Ryerson with Jimmy Hewkin as honorary.

The Hewkin Family was served by the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home, Steelville, MO.
