Rev. Paul G. Conaway, age 89 years, 4 months and 30 days, of Cuba, MO passed away Sunday, September 22, 2024 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 23, 1935 in Cherryville, MO to Irvin Jesse Conaway and Lena Hazel Martin Conaway.
He was united in marriage to Mildred Rosalea Howdeshell on June 14, 1952; and to this union three sons and two daughters were born.
While living in St. Louis, he was the minister for a Pentecostal Church for twenty years. He was also employed at Combustion Engineering in St. Louis for 20 years as a boiler maker. In 1955, Paul and Mildred purchased a farm at Cherryville, which his dad encouraged him to do instead of buying a car. He enjoyed farming throughout the years. He and Mildred moved back to Crawford County in 1990. Paul always enjoyed going to the auctions at the sale barn. He also was the President of the Freeman Cemetery Association for many years.
Paul attended Cherryville Baptist Church. In later years, he was a part-owner with his sons in a hardware store in Cuba.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Irvin and Lena Conaway; Brothers, Luther (Emily) Conaway, Lawrence Conaway, Noel (Velma) Conaway and Irvin Conaway, Jr: Sister, Geneva (Clyde) Green; and Brother-in-law, Leo Brown.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 72 years, Mildred Conaway of Cuba, MO; five Children, Paula Dean Conaway of Orange County, CA, Michael Nathan Conaway of Steelville, MO, Kimberly Rose White of St. Louis, MO, Steven Mitchell (Kelli) Conaway of Pacific, MO and Jason Paul (Kate) Conaway of Fenton, MO; eleven Grandchildren, Melissa (Steve) Fifer, Kristopher (Carrie) Conaway, Samantha (Bradley) Bell, Jessica (Ian) Cortez, Brittany (Brandon) Oberndorfer, Ashley (Brian Warner) Broderick, Jacob (Kirstie) Broderick, Hank (Brea) Conaway, Isaac Conaway, Maggie Conaway and Johnathan Conaway; eight Great-Grandchildren, Brett, Lillie, Adalynn, Hudson, Samantha, Jaxon, Rosalie and a soon-to-be Great-Grandson in January of 2025; Sister, Lorraine Brown of Owensville, MO; Sisters-in-law, Mildred Conaway of Steelville, MO and Mary Conaway of Cherryville, MO; other relatives and many friends.
The Family received friends from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 27, 2024 and from 10 a.m. until service time on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO.
Funeral services were held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, September 28, 2024 with Rev. Harrison Brown officiating. Special memories were shared by granddaughters, Jessica Cortez and Samantha Bell and nieces, Connie and Nancy Crabtree. Special music of "Amazing Grace", "How Great Thou Art" and "In the Sweet By and By" was sung by Bob and Carol Coleman with Shirley Brown as pianist.
Committal prayer and interment were in the Freeman Cemetery, Cherryville, MO.
Honored to be casket bearers were Kristopher Conaway, Jacob Broderick, Hank Conaway, Isaac Conaway, Brett Quigg and Jaxon Conaway.
Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
