Raymond Claude Morrison of Hot Springs, Arkansas passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, June 22, 2022 at the age of 72 years, 10 months and 7 days. He was born August 15, 1949 in Steelville, Missouri to Claude and Vivian, nee Young, Morrison.
Ray moved with his family to California in 1955 where he spent his childhood. He graduated from Santa Maria High School in Santa Maria, CA and his family then moved to Florida where he attended Brevard College in Titusville, FL.
Ray made a profession of faith as a young adult. He wasn’t shy about letting people know things were better because of answered prayer.
Ray moved to St. Louis, MO where he met and was united in marriage to Rebecca Jones. To this union one daughter was born. Ray and his family again moved to California where he began his career as a carpenter. It wasn’t long before he became a master carpenter doing custom building and designs. He eventually moved to Hot Springs, AR in 1994 where he began his own company. Later contracting and representing The Kelso Firm in Hot Springs. Ray was forced into retirement July 1, 2021 due to his illness. He would say, “As soon as I get my lung transplant, I am going back to work!”
He enjoyed life and loved to travel. He had many hobbies such as stained glass, photography and painting. Many of his paintings were on display at the Whittington Gallery in Hot Springs.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Vivian Young Morrison; grandparents, Raymond and Marcena, nee Martin, Morrison and Raymond and Wynema Young, nee Underhill; and two nephews, Jon William and Daniel Neil Gruver, Jr.
He will be sadly missed by his daughter, Dianna Rae Stark of Hot Springs, AR; his father, Claude (Sandra) Morrison of Cuba, MO; his sister, Claudette (Jerry) Sanders of Cuba, MO; niece, Cheryl (Jason) Turnbough of Gainesville, MO; aunts and uncle, Vera Whalen of Cuba, MO and Lois and Orville Bridgeman of Newbury Park, CA; great-aunts, Lucille Harmon of Steelville, MO and Bernice King; aunts; uncles; cousins; other relatives; and many friends.
The Family received friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, June 27, 2022 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating. The obituary was read by Rick Whalen. Special music of "Amazing Grace" was sung by Jerry Sanders and Rev. Jerry Beers. Other music of "In the Arms of an Angel" and "Go Rest High" was played. Memories were shared by Jerry Sanders.
Committal prayer and interment wiere in the Freeman Cemetery, Cherryville, MO.
Honored to be casket bearers were Rick Whalen, Jason Turnbough, Walter Wiseman, Rick Morrison, Danny McKinley and Bill Bacon with Jerry Sanders as honorary.
The Morrison Family was served by the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of Steelville, MO.
