Rev. Everett "Lyn" Heying III Obituary

Reverend Everett “Lyn” Lynch Heying III of Steelville, Missouri, formerly of Holts Summit, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2023 in Union, Missouri at the age of 76 years, 2 months and 7 days. Lyn was born March 31, 1947 in Kansas City, Missouri to Everett Lynch Heying II and Margaret Moran Heying.

He was united in marriage to Bonnie Driemeyer on August 3,  1968 in St. Louis, MO and to this union a son and a daughter were born.

Lyn served honorably for four years in the U.S. Air Force stationed in Alaska. After his service in the military, he attended UMKC and graduated with a degree in geology. He then went to work for the drilling industry and in a few years went to work for the Department of the Interior in Denver. Lyn eventually started his own business with a drill rig “Terra Dynamics”. At this point his life changed again and he and Bonnie moved back to Kansas City where Lyn went back to school attending Midwest Theological Seminary obtaining a master’s degree in Divinity. God led he and Bonnie to a few different churches in Missouri;  Alma, Lone Jack, Palmyra, Monroe City, and Hartsburg where he retired from preaching and moved to Holts Summit. During his years in the ministry, Lyn was on the board of Word and Way and later the restoration committee,  involved in the Southern Baptist Convention and helped in the mission fields of China and Ecuador where he and Bonnie traveled six different times. Lyn’s life consisted of many years of giving whether it was time or money. He also enjoyed being a substitute teacher for a number of years. In 2020, he and Bonnie moved to Steelville to be closer to family and became a member of the First Baptist Church.

Lyn always enjoyed vacationing with his family and always taking time to collect rocks. He also enjoyed deer hunting and loved his house pets.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Margaret Heying; his daughter, Bonnie Jeanne Brown; sister, Peggy Heying;  mother-in-law, Bonnie Driemeyer; and brother-in-law, Jim Vaughn.

He will be lovingly missed by his wife of almost 55 years, Bonnie Heying of Steelville; one son, Jeffrey (Christine) Heying of Godfrey, IL; grand-daughter, Aubree Lynn (Jonathon) Courson-Strauss of Panama City, FL; son-in-law, Joe Brown of Fulton, MO; sister, Patti Bennett of Texas, sister-in-law, Joyce Vaughn of Steelville; several nieces, nephews; other relatives; and friends.
