Rev. John Mickel Slade, Sr.

Rev. John Mickel Slade, Sr., age 88 years, 9 months and 28 days, of Steelville, Missouri passed away Sunday, June 28, 2026 at the Springfield Mercy Hospital. He was born August 31, 1937 in Festus, MO to Thomas and Fannie Wilkinson Slade.

John was raised in Davisville, MO on the Slade family farm. He attended the Davisville School and later Cherryville High School, graduating in 1956.

After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served honorably in Korea. If anyone knew John, he was seen wearing his Korean War Veteran hat proudly.

On December 21, 1959, John was united in marriage to Mary J. Jines and two sons and one daughter were born.

He was employed at Ford Motor Company in St. Louis, where he retired after 30 years.

John was always busy, repairing TV’s, making willow furniture and never letting his hands be idle. He found projects to fix up his shed, or house and kept a great garden.

He became an ordained minister and was a Pastor for the Allenton Church of God for 13 years and Union Church of God for another 13 years. He was a special speaker for several other churches in and around the state of Missouri. He was also involved in mission work for the Native Americans in Arizona for a few years.

After retiring from Ford, he relocated back to his roots in Davisville, MO with his wife, Mary, in 1992. He was excited to be near the Slade family farm and his brother, Harold.

John found love again after Mary passed with Marlene Isaak. They married on November 1, 2014 and gained more family to be blessed with.

You could find John fishing on the banks of the Huzzah, hunting on the Slade family farm and singing the praises of God. His favorite song, “Oasis of Love”, could be heard from him singing for specials in churches and blessing others with his passion for Christ. His faith was his feature-he told everyone he knew about Jesus.

The love he had for his life, his family and friends were beyond words, and were evident in his actions every day.

A father to some, a pastor to others, a servant of the Lord.

“When the roll is called up yonder, I’ll be there.”

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Fannie Slade; wife, Mary J. Jines Slade; daughter-in-law, Karen Slade; brothers, Homer and Roberta Slade, Tommy and Joyce Slade and  Harold Slade; sisters, Janet and Larry Farrar, Joann and Bill Gahr, Betty Neely and Jean and James Setzer.

He will be lovingly missed by his wife, Marlene Isaak Slade, of the home; sons, Michael (Rita) Slade of Union, MO and Jeffrey Slade of Hernando, MS; daughter, Michelle (Kurtis) Harrison of Overland Park, KS; grandchildren, Joshua (Morgan) Slade, Timothy (Stacy) Slade and Rebecca Mendenall and Kaylee Higgins; great-grandchildren, Mei Slade, Lukas Slade and one on the way; brother, Joseph (Joann) of St. Ann, MO; sister-in-law, Joan Slade of Davisville, MO; Stepchildren, Harold Isaak of Springfield, MO, Barbara (Howard) Crocker of Lebanon, MO, Cindy (Vince) Wisdom of Boss, MO and Rebecca (Steve) Setzer of Dillard, MO; many step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; other relatives; and many friends.

The Family received friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2026 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO.

A Funeral Service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 3, 2026 with Rev. Harrison Brown officiating. Special memories were shared by Michell Slade Harrison and Jeffrey Slade. Music of “Look For Me” was sung by Robyn Burns. Other music of “What a Day That Will Be” was sung by the family and friends with Shirley Brown on piano.

Committal prayer and interment with full military honors by the U.S. Army and South Central Missouri Patriot Guard Riders were in the Davisville Cemetery, Davisville, MO.

Honored to be casket bearers were Steve Setzer, Tom Slade, Harold Isaak, Timothy Slade, Curtis Harrison and Tony Slade with Michael and Jeff Slade as honorary bearers.

The Slade Family was served by the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of Steelville, MO.
