Rev. Thomas Slovensky, Jr. Obituary

Reverend Thomas (Tommy) Roy Slovensky, Jr., passed from death into eternal life on Saturday, January 4, 2025 at the age of 61 years, 1 month and 17 days.

He was born on November 18, 1963, to Reverend Thomas and Donna Slovensky (née Boulch) of Steelville, MO.

Tommy started out as a great son and brother, grew into a wonderful man, became the most devoted husband, and was the best father that anybody could ever have.

In high school, Tommy loved playing baritone saxophone in the jazz band. He graduated from Viburnum High School in Viburnum, MO, in 1982. The following year, he enlisted in the Army National Guard as a light wheel vehicle mechanic with the combat engineer unit in Salem, MO. Later, he transferred to St. Clair, MO, serving as a military policeman until he was honorably discharged in 1998. He also served on the Sullivan volunteer fire department district from 1991-1998 and during that time served as Chaplain of the firehouse.

Tommy married his best friend and the love of his life, Regina, on May 26, 1984, whom he lovingly referred to as Gina. Together, they built a life filled with faith, love, and family. They welcomed their first son, Andrew Thomas, in December of 1986, followed by three more sons: Cyrus Wade, Seth Nathanael, and Matthias Glendon.

Tommy loved the outdoors, hunting, especially camping at the lake, water skiing, and fishing. These activities brought him peace and joy, and he cherished the memories made with family and friends.

His faith never wavered. Early in their marriage, Tommy and Gina were children’s evangelists, where he played the lovable role of Bartholomew. Bartholomew was known for needing help with his memory verses and changing the lyrics to the children’s song, "Jesus Loves the Little Children."

At the age of 33, Tommy accepted the call into the preaching ministry and became a licensed minister. Heeding the call to pastor at Glory Hill Assembly of God in Potosi, MO, he studied diligently to become a certified minister with the Assemblies of God. He and his wife Regina pastored at Glory Hill for eight years before taking the position of Associate Pastors at DeSoto First Assembly of God. They served faithfully for two years before Tommy received his diagnosis of frontotemporal degeneration, a rare form of dementia also known as FTD.

After 2002, when Tommy lost his pancreas, he miraculously survived another 22 years of life. We have no regrets in his passing, as the life expectancy predicted by doctors is only 5-7 years. His extended life was a testament to God’s grace and Tommy’s resilience.

Despite life’s challenges, Tommy exhibited the true joy of the Lord because, no matter the circumstances, he always had a smile and a laugh. It would start as a mischievous grin, chuckle and grow into a belly laugh that lit up a room. In times when he didn’t know what to say, he would always give you a hug that made you feel at peace.

Ornery to the core, Tommy was a gifted practical joker and a belly laugher extraordinaire who brought joy and humor to all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Reverend Thomas Slovensky; grandson, Simon Andrew Slovensky; his loving grandparents; and two mother's in law, Barbara Harper and Donna Kay Harper.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Regina Rae Slovensky (née Harper) of Potosi, MO; his mother, Donna Slovensky; his sister, LaDonna and her husband Donald Slovensky, all of Affton, MO. His father-in-law, Charles and wife Donna Marie Harper of Steelville, MO and brother-in-law, Stephen Harper of Granite City, IL.

Tommy was a proud father to his children: Andrew Slovensky of New Bloomfield, MO and daughter-in-law Astryd Slovensky of Jefferson City, MO; Cyrus Slovensky and wife Nicole, Seth Slovensky and wife Casey, and Matthias Slovensky and wife April, all of Potosi, MO. He was a beloved Pawpaw to his cherished grandchildren: Alexander (Alex), Anthony (Tony), Kaitlynn, Henry, Katarina Joy, Vincent, Ezra, and Xenon Slovensky.

He will also be missed by his many extended family including in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.
