Richard "Dick" Woods Obituary

Richard “Dick” James Woods of St. Louis, Missouri passed away Monday, July 22, 2024 at the age of 87 years and 11 days. Dick was born in Steelville, Missouri to Myrt Johnnie Woods and Elsie Irene Brown Woods.

As a young boy, he attended Cherryville School until he and his family moved to St. Louis and there, he graduated from Hadley Tech High School in 1955 and received two more years of technical training. In 1959, he was united in marriage to Janet Miller and to this union three children were born.

Dick continued to live in the St. Louis area for several years and residing forty years on the Hill in St. Louis. During those years, he worked as an auto mechanic at a body shop, a car salesman and retired after 35 years from the Department of the U.S. Army where he oversaw the assembly of field generators for the Army. In 1975, Dick was united in marriage to Beverly Jean Hodges.

Dick was a 32nd degree Mason for thirty plus years in St. Ann. He loved hunting elk and traveled to Colorado and Vermont to find his trophy. He also enjoyed hunting deer and turkey. Most of his life, he loved working on his cars and going to car shows and keeping his 1932 Chevy Coupe “Lucille” in pristine condition.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Myrt and Elsie Woods; two sons, Richie and Kevin Woods; his wife, Beverly Jean Woods; brother, William “Willy” Woods and wife Audrey; infant niece, Penny Lee Sanders; two brothers-in-law, Dewey Olney and Dale Young.

He will be missed by his daughter, Debra (Maria Romero) Woods of Wentzville, MO; three granddaughters, Mackenize (Erick) Ocampo, Abbigael Woods and Macie Woods; two great-grandsons, Beckham and Maddox Ocampo; dear close friend, Marvell Kaysinger of St. Louis, MO; brother, Terry Lee (Linda) Woods of Washington, MO; three sisters, Violet “Sis” (Estel) Sanders and Joyce Olney of Steelville, MO and Mary Gean Young of Cuba, MO.

The Family received friends from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 26, 2024 and 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO.

Funeral services were held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, July 27, 2024 with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating. Special music of "Lucille", "How Great Thou Art", "Amazing Grace" and "Go Rest High" was played.

Committal prayer and interment were in the Brown Cemetery, Steelville, MO.

Honored to be casket bearers were Terry Woods, Abbigael Woods, Dustin Woods, Eric Ocampo, Bradley "B.J." James Woods and Eddie Sanders.
