Roger Clair Donal of Steelville, Missouri passed away Saturday, January 20, 2024 in his home at the age of 74 years, 9 months and 11 days. He was born April 9, 1949 in Waynesville, Missouri to Thomas James Donal and Esther C. Halbert Donal. Roger graduated from the Steelville High School Class of 1969.
On September 21, 1974 in Steelville, he was united in marriage to Darlene Harrington. Roger started his career as a deckhand with Mobil Oil working on the Mississippi. During this time he earned his Chief Engineer/Merchant Marine licensure and went on to work with Sunoco, transporting fuel in the Caribbean. Roger received 2 separate commendations from the Coast Guard and Sunoco for saving the lives of his fellow crewmen and the boats they were on in hurricane conditions. He retired from the Argosy Bell Casino boat in 2010. Roger had many stories of his adventures and loved recounting them with friends and family.
As a young boy, he was baptized at the Steelville Presbyterian Church. Roger enjoyed fishing, gigging and deer hunting and treasure hunting for civil war and Indian artifacts. He loved his hot-rods whether building one or driving one. He also loved his special dogs, Jake who passed away a few years ago and Lugnut, his beloved dog who was with him until the end. Most of all he loved his family and the times he spent with them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Esther Donal; and brother, Thomas Donal.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of almost 50 years, Darlene Donal of Steelville, MO; two sons, Kenneth (Samantha Jo) Donal of Sequin, TX and Clinton James of Steelville, MO; two daughters, Anita Donal of Springfield, MO and Heather (Kenny) Douglas of Camdenton, MO; five grandchildren, Cierra Cheyenne Donal, Zachary William Donal, Jaden Xander Riley Donal, Sierra Rose Luttrell and TaSheena Jean Richardson; two brothers, Bruce (Cheryl) Donal of Cherryville, MO and Jerry (Carla) Donal of Roach, MO; Mike Viehman of Cherryville, MO, best friend of 60 years; other relatives; and friends.
The Family received friends from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO.
Funeral services were held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, January 26, 2024 with Rev. Darla Buettner officiating. Memories were shared by son, Kenneth. Special music of "How Do We Say Goodbye", "Five More Minutes", "Daddy's Hands" and "Peace in the Valley was played.
Committal prayer and interment were in the Steelville Cemetery. Music of "Amazing Grace" was played on bagpipes by Rob Bowness.
Honored to be casket bearers were Kenneth Donal, Zach Donal, Jaden Donal, Samantha Donal, Doug Donal and Cierra Donal.
A dinner for Family and Friends will be served after all of the services on Friday at Faith Chapel Assembly in Cuba.
