Roy Harmon Obituary

Roy Edward Harmon of Steelville, Missouri passed away Monday, January 4, 2021 in Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 92 years, 11 months and 12 days. He was born January 23, 1928 at Huzzah, Missouri to Emerson Eldridge Harmon and Florence Mae Parrott Harmon. Roy was united in marriage to Ruth Francis Dicus on September 13, 1950 and to this union eight children were born.

Earlier in his working life, Roy was employed at Brown Bag Company in St. Louis. He later went to work at Floyd’s Charcoal Plant in Salem, MO for fifteen years. In later years, Roy did various jobs for John Britton, Cliff Beckham and Dr. Bauman and other business’. He also worked for the Green Thumb program for the city of Steelville.

Several years ago, he had attended Steelville First Baptist Church. Roy was always known for his working, walking and talking regiment, plus sharing his Juicy Fruit or Spearmint gum with children or adults. Many will miss his weekly phone calls throughout the community.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emerson and Florence Harmon; his wife, Ruth Harmon; infant daughter, Brenda Sue Harmon; two sons, Wilbur Ransom and Roy Dean Harmon; twin infant brother, Troy Harmon and two stillborn brothers, Samuel and Lewis Harmon; sisters, Phoeba, Isabell, Ester Harmon and Virginia Lefler; two daughters-in-law, Gloria Harmon and Sue Harmon; and one grandchild.

He is survived by four sons, Calvin “Emery” (Tammy Sue) Harmon, Paul Harmon and Johnnie (Laurie) Ransom all of Steelville, MO and Larry (Misty) Harmon of Cherryville, MO; one daughter, Janis Cox of Steelville, MO; twenty-two grandchilden; fifty-five great-grandchildren; many great-great-grandchildren; other relatives; and many friends.

The Family received friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 10, 2021 with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating. Special music of Cherokee - "Amazing Grace" and "I'll fly Away" was played. The service was Live streamed on the Facebook Page of Britton-Bennett Funeral Home.

Committal prayer and interment were in the Martin-Trask Cemetery.

Honored to be casket bearers were Robert Bullock, Rodney Turner, Austin Dunaway, Paul David Harmon, Samuel Harmon and D.J. Harmon

The Harmon Family was served by the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home.
