Ruby Stites Obituary

Ruby Isolene Stites of Steelville, Missouri passed away Sunday, December 13, 2020 at Steelville Senior Living at the age of 87 years, 3 months and 27 days. She was born August 17, 1933 in Keysville, Missouri to Winfred and Dovie Oxendine Stites.

Isolene had been a member of the First Baptist Church in Steelville for many years and also attended Victory Baptist Church at Cherryville. She graduated from Cherryville High School. For twenty years, she was employed at Gibbs Care as a supervisor over Housekeeping in which she loved her job, retiring in 1995. Isolene enjoyed gardening, sewing and quilting, and cooking chicken and dumplings for her family on Sunday. Isolene loved life.

From a quote by one of her nieces, Stacy, “Our family lost a special lady early on Sunday morning. Aunt “Icie” was a selfless and gracious lady who worked hard her entire life. She and my Grandma Stites lived together and she helped care for Grandma. Aunt “Icie” was like having another grandma to care for me. I spent time with her and my Grandma after school and during the daytime of summer breaks. She loved all of her family and friends. She loved to cook and enjoyed sharing new recipes. She was kind and caring and loved going to church to praise God when she was able to go. She will be missed by her family and friends. Until we see her again, we will treasure our memories.”

She was preceded in death by her parents, Winfred and Dovie Stites; two brothers, Cecil Stites and Bill Stites; sister-in-law, Deloris Stites; and nephews, Michael Plank, Dale Wayne Stites and Brian Stites.

She is survived by her sister, Shirley (Mike) Plank of Steelville, MO; three brothers, Lane Stites, Bob Stites and Joe (Joyce) Stites all of Steelville, MO; sister-in-law, Pearl Stites of Steelville, MO; twelve nieces; nine nephews; many great nieces and nephews; other relatives; and many friends.
