Sara Farmer Obituary

Sara Marie Farmer, nee Goodman, of Steelville, Missouri passed away Sunday, March 27, 2022 at the age of 90 years and 4 days. She was born March 23, 1932 in St. Louis to Alfred E. and Marguerite Goodman. Sara grew up in St. Louis, but spent many weekends and summers at Birds Nest Lodge in which her parents owned a part of the business. As a sophomore in high school, her parents acquired full ownership of the resort and they moved to Steelville where she graduated in 1950. Steelville is where she met her future husband, Jack Farmer. On November 1, 1952, she and Jack were married at Holy Cross Church in Cuba and to this union, two sons and two daughters were born.

Sara was a lifetime and faithful member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church since it opened in Steelville in 1949 with only 14 families. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and volunteered at the Steelville Food Pantry. She and Jack loved to travel and did so to 50 states along with traveling to the two smallest countries, Vatican City and Monaco. She also spent many hours canning fruit and vegetables, baking and sewing for their girls while they were young. She also enjoyed spending time reading. Most of all she loved time spent with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Marguerite Goodman; husband, Jack Farmer; son, Neal Farmer and sister, Patricia Goodman.

She will be lovingly remembered by her son, Mark (Alynn) Farmer of Poquoson, VA; two daughters, Mary (Jerry) Whitley of Ferguson, MO and Lynn (Bill) Holmes of Washington, MO; daughter-in-law, Cynthia Farmer of Murfreesboro, TN; six grandchildren, Monica Braun, Matt (Amanda) Holmes, Andrew Holmes, Dan (Emily) Farmer, Jonathon Farmer, and Nicholas Farmer; one great-grandchild, Henry Farmer; one brother, Richard (Lois) Goodman of St. Louis, MO; other relatives; and many friends.
