Earl Payne of Steelville, Missouri passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2022 at his home surrounded by his family and close friends at the age of 77 years, 11 months and 29 days.

Shurman “Earl” Payne of Steelville, Missouri passed away Sunday, March 13, 2022 at his daughter’s home surrounded by his family and close friends. He was born March 15, 1944 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri to Bradley Anderson Payne and Jewel Rogers Payne. On November 22, 1969 in St. Louis, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Sandra Lewis.

Earl was an over the road truck driver and was able to see forty-nine states working many years for Ozark Trucking. He always enjoyed being with his family and helping out with outdoor chores such as mowing. In his younger days, he also enjoyed riding motorcycles. Earl liked spending time watching westerns, action movies and even some cartoons. Most of all he loved spending any time he could with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Bradley and Jewell Payne; his wife, Sandy Payne; two brothers, Billy Payne and Bobby Payne; one sister, Glenna Wilson; and brother-in-law, Rick Mattingly.

He will be sadly missed by his two daughters, Lori (Jerry) Payne of Steelville, MO and Malinda (Bill) Eaton of Cherryville, MO; one son, Steven Garrett of Steelville, MO; five grandchildren, Dylan and Tyler Payne, William and Matthew Eaton and Paige Garrett; four great-grandchildren, Tristan, Addilynn, Kyle and Kynlee; two brothers, Roy (Mary) Payne and Larry Payne; three sisters, Betty (James) Campbell of St. Louis, MO, Judy Mattingly of Doe Run, MO and Susan (Mike) Lunsford of Park Hills, MO; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives; honorary daughter, Diane Green and granddaughter, "Rochelle"and other friends.

The Family received friends from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home with Rev. Harrison Brown and Rev. Bob Coleman officiating. Special music of "On the Road Again" and "Scars in Heaven" was played. Other music of "Old Rugged Cross" was sung by Bob and Carol Coleman.

The service was Live streamed on Britton-Bennett Funeral Home Facebook page.

Graveside Services were held at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at the Kern's Chapel Cemetery in Poplar Bluff, MO.

Committal prayer and interment were in the Kern's Chapel Cemetery. Honored to be casket bearers were Leroy Payne, Mark Payne, Bobby Payne, Mike Sherman, Matthew Eaton, William Eaton, Dylan Payne and Jay Coleman with Tyler Payne as honorary.

Memorials may be given to the Family for funeral expenses.
