Stephan Bass Obituary

Stephan Rowland Bass of Steelville, Missouri passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2018 surrounded by his family at the age of 50 years, 1 month and 29 days. He was born December 23, 1967 in Sullivan, Missouri to Robert Franklin Bass, Sr. and Agnes` Muller Bass. On November 23, 1996 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Steelville, he was united in marriage to Julie Cottrell and to this union two sons were born.

Stephan was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Steelville. He was the second generation owner and operator of Bass River Resort along with his wife, Julie. He was a member of the Missouri Canoes and Floaters Association, Missouri Association of RV and Campgrounds and the American Outdoors Association. He was also a member of the Missouri Cattleman's Association, Cuba Chamber of Commerce and the Steelville Area Chamber of Commerce. Just recently Bass River Resort was honored by being named "Business of the Year" by the Steelville Area Chamber. Stephan loved being in the outdoors whether it was dirt bike or motorcycle riding, hunting or fishing. He also enjoyed working with all of the employees and the many visitors whom he met each day. Stephan was a vital part of our community and will be missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Bass, Sr.; father-in-law, Bob Cottrell; and step-father, Jim Stafford.

Stephan will be sadly missed by his wife of twenty-two years, Julie Bass of Steelville, MO; two sons, Brendan Robert Bass and Trent Alexander Bass of Steelville, MO; his mother, Agnes` Bass-Stafford; one brother, Robert "Bear" Bass and wife Tera of Leasburg, MO; mother-in-law, Karen Cottrell of Steelville, MO; brother-in-law's, Corey and Colin Cottrell of Steelville, MO; sister-in-law's, Holly Cottrell of Steelville, MO and Karey Franz of Elbert, CO; five nephews, Chase, Cale, Warner, Cameron and Riley; four nieces, Mandy, Hannah, Cayman and Rein; many friends and employees.

The Family received friends from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO and from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Monday, February 26, 2018 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Steelville.

A funeral mass was held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 26, 2018 at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Steelville, MO with Father Rich Boever and Rev. Joe Skiles officiating. Special music was played and sung by Mrs. Deloris Bell. Scripture readings were read by Bob Bell, Hannah and Cayman Cottrell and the altar boys were Jack and Dan  Hoffmann.

Committal prayer and interment were in the Fairview Cemetery, Butts, MO.

Honored to be casket bearers were Colin Cottrell, Corey Cottrell, Brady Baum, Jeff McMillen, Mark Garrison, Rick Livesay, Andrew Hofherr and Larry Allen. Honorary casket bearers were Jim Brewer, John Gunter, David Trantina and Dillon Parry.

The Family was served by the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of Steelville,MO.
