Vondel Ray Edgar

Vondel Ray Edgar of Viburnum, Missouri passed away Thursday, August 7, 2025 in his home at the age of 81 years, 4 months and 10 days. He was born March 28, 1944 in St. Louis, MO to Floyd Thomas Edgar and Hazel Jeanette Martin Edgar. 

Vondel graduated from Cherryville High School. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1967 and finished his time of Reserve Obligation in 1971. He was honored with several badges and medals along with a Bronze Service Star.

Vondel was united in marriage to Linda Gale Barton on January 27, 1968 at Boss, MO and to this union one son was born.

He was employed at Doe Run Company, retiring after almost 40 years.

Vondel enjoyed deer and squirrel hunting and occasionally fishing. He was an avid Cardinal Baseball fan, loved to watch old westerns and spend time cutting grass on his land.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Hazel Martin; three brothers, William “Bill” Edgar, Arnold Edgar and infant, Cole Edgar; four sisters, Janet (Jerry) Parmley, Lula Carol Edgar, Geraldine Pratt and Brenda Asher.

He will be sadly missed by his son, Tracy Edgar of Viburnum, MO; ex-wife, Linda Edgar; five brothers, Floyd “Bud” (Kathleen) Edgar of Pevely, MO, Vernon (Lien) Edgar of DeSoto, MO, Malcolm Edgar of Potosi, MO, Ricky (Anna) Edgar of Steelville, MO and Kelly (Angie) Edgar of Cherryville, MO; sister, Janice Kay (Lee) Parker of Vacaville, CA; and sister-in-law, Maria Edgar of MO.

The Family received friends from 11:00 a.m. until service time on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO. 

Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Ronnie Chandler officiating. Special music of "Amazing Grace", "Blessed Hope" and "What a Day That Will Be" was sung and played by Kevin and Kim Abney.

Committal prayer, interment and Full Military Honors with the U.S. Army and South Central Patriot Guard were in the Shoal Creek Cemetery, Berryman, MO.

Honored to be casket bearers were Rick Edgar, Kelly Edgar, Alan Edgar, Nathan Asher, Grant Edgar and Brad Davis.
