Warren "Gilbert" Sellers Obituary

Warren “Gilbert” Sellers of Dillard, Missouri was born December 9, 1933 in Dillard to Ira and Alpha Cottrell Sellers and passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2020 in his home at the age of 86 years, 4 months and 19 days. Gilbert was a 1951 graduate of Cherryville High School and lived his entire life on the family farm.  He was united in marriage to Geraldine Skaggs on April 23, 1955 in Hernando, Mississippi. Gilbert retired from the U.S. Forest Service having worked thirty years.

Gilbert enjoyed fishing and hunting in his younger years but was content to help his grandchildren in those hobbies later in life. He also enjoyed gardening, raising cattle and attending auctions. Gilbert was also on the Board of Sellers Cemetery for fifty years. He was very proud to have received the distinction as their farm being named Missouri Century Farm in 2003.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Alpha Cottrell Sellers; brother, James Edward (Thelma) Sellers; sister, Glenna (Donald) O’Connor; two nephews, Donald O’Connor and Ronnie Sellers; one niece, Barbara O’Connor; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Herman and Hildred Skaggs; brothers-in-law, Don and Marvin Skaggs; and sister-in-law, Mary Shrout.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Geraldine “Gerry” Sellers, nee Skaggs of Dillard, MO; a daughter, Sandra Jo (Robert Gapsch) Sellers of Dillard, MO; a son, Gilbert “Alan” (Kimberly Ann) Sellers of Jackson, MO; grandson, Joshua Alan (Emily Vines) Sellers of Cape Girardeau, MO; granddaughters, Katherine Ann Sellers of Kansas City, MO and Molly Elizabeth Ann Sellers of Jackson, MO; nephew, Michael O’Connor of IN; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Leon (Margie) Skaggs of VA, Bill (Mary) Skaggs and Gary Skaggs all of Cuba, MO, Barb Skaggs of St. Louis, MO and Kathy (Mike) Reeves of House Springs, MO; other relatives; and friends.

Gilbert was loved dearly by his family and friends and he was known and respected by a great many friends, former co-workers and residents of the Crawford County area and will be sadly missed by all.

Due to the COVID-19, a Private Family graveside service was held at 1:00 p.m. on April 30, 2020 at the Sellers Cemetery with Alan Sellers and Josh Sellers officiating and opening and closing prayers by Kim Sellers. Scripture was read by Katie Sellers and poems were read by Sandra Sellers and Molly Sellers. Special music of “How Great Thou Art” and “Amazing Grace” was sung by Johnny Setzer.

The Family was served by the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of Steelville, MO.
