William “Bill” Luther Barman of St. Louis, Missouri passed away Sunday, March 15, 2020 at the age of 81 years, 9 months and 3 days. Bill was born June 12, 1938 in St. Louis to John Enos Barman and Lucy Mae Jaco Barman. On August 14, 1971 in St. Louis, he was united in marriage to Ruby Haffer.
He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army and graduated from the Missouri University of Columbia. Bill was a member and attended Maplewood Baptist Church. He was also a member of the VFW Post #6 in the St. Louis area. Bill was employed as a fire investigator for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lucy Mae Barman; two sons, Gene “Elgie” Gowers and Gary Gowers; one infant daughter, Janice Carol Gowers; one sister, Barbara Barman; brothers-in-law, Archie Haffer, Claude Haffer, Raymond Haffer and John Doss; sisters-in-law, Wanetta Haffer, Hallie McConnell, Melba Doss and Gladys Hammond.
He is survived by his son, David (Cielo) Gowers of St. Louis, MO; one brother, John Barman of St. Louis, MO; brother-in-law, Floyd “Bud” Haffer of St. James, MO; sisters-in-law, Ruth Thomas of St. Louis, MO and Fern (Bob) McClain of Steelville, MO; other relatives; and many friends.
The Family received friends from 11:00 a.m. until service time on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2020 with Jeannie Barman officiating. Special music of "Wayfaring Stranger" was sung by Norma Thomas. Other music of "Moonlight Bay" and "Colorado Sunset" was played.
Interment was in the Haffer Family Cemetery, Steelville, MO.
Honored to be casket bearers were William "Billy" Gowers, Jason Gowers, Buddy Haffer, Willy Haffer and Austin Haffer.
