Winfred “Lane” Stites of Steelville, Missouri passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2024 in Steelville Senior Living at the age of 88 years, 3 months and 3 days. Lane was born May 25, 1936 in Keysville, Missouri to Winfred Rudolph Stites and Dovie Mae Oxendine Stites.
He was united in marriage to Juanita Delores Gibson on March 26, 1955 in Cherryville and to this union two sons and two daughters were born.
In earlier days, Lane was employed at McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis for a number of years and later he went to work at Frisco Railroad.
Lane had been a member of the Cherryville First Baptist Church. He always enjoyed coon hunting, turkey and deer hunting and watching the St. Louis Cardinals. He was a carpenter who built many porches and decks and did remodeling’s.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Winfred and Dovie Stites; his wife, Delores Stites; siblings, Cecil (Pearl) Stites, Bill Stites, Bobby Stites and Ruby Stites; and son-in-law, Don McKinnon.
He is survived by his two sons, Allan (Carmen) Stites of Cherryville, MO and Paul (Elsie) Stites of Steelville, MO; two daughters, Kathy (Steve) Crocker of Black, MO and Sue McKinnon of Steelville, MO; 13 grandchildren, Jason Stites, Jacob Stites, April (Tom) Verble, Coty (Felica) Stites, Amy (Will) Sutton, Jared (Sarah) Stites, Jessica (Bud) Stroup, Jennifer (Travis) Ware, Jeremy Crocker, Kristen Crocker, Michael McKinnon, Ladonna (Matt) Thompson and Josh McKinnon; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley (Mike) Plank of Steelville, MO; brother, Joe (Joyce) Stites; nieces, nephews; other relatives; and many friends.
The Family received friends from 11:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2004 with Rev. Jerry Beers officiating. Special music of "Wish You Were Here", "Daddy's Hands" and "Go Rest High" was played.
Committal prayer and interment were in the Cherryville Baptist Church Cemetery, Cherryville, MO.
Honored to be casket bearers were Cody Stites, Jared Stites, Jacob Sutton, Bo Sutton, Joshua McKinnon, Brice Verble and Dalton Thompson with honorary, Jeremy Crocker, Tom Verble, Michael McKinnon and Matthew Thompson.
