Georgia Beth Barksdale, nee Hopkins, of Steelville, Missouri passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2018 in Sullivan, Missouri at the age of 84 years, 11 months and 7 days. She was born January 26, 1933 in Steelville, Missouri to Willis Hopkins and Celeste Ashworth Hopkins. On September 5, 1954 in the First Baptist Church of Steelville, Georgia Beth was united in marriage to James H. Barksdale. They met at the First Baptist Church and Jim joined the church choir to meet Georgia Beth. Their first real date was to a basketball game in Cherryville. The rest is history and they continued to live in Steelville after their marriage. When they were first married, Georgia Beth worked for Lay Bonded Abstract CO for thirteen years and after that, they bought a shoe store and she managed it until it was sold. She then went to work for the Crawford Mirror and retired in 2000. She enjoyed traveling with Jim throughout the years while he sold his wooden decoys and helping get ready for his shows. Georgia Beth and Jim both taught Sunday School and continued to sing in the choir for sixty-three years. She also enjoyed bowling, weaving baskets, doing word search puzzles and roller skating. They both set a good Christian example for their family by putting God at the head of the family.
